Like Eugene, Chris and Gatsby, they are all on a search to become their own person and to creat their own personality and identity Quotes 1) "I'm always going to the store when I grow up that's all ill be trained to do" (18 Simon). 2) "Its amazing how quickly you recover from being miserable when theres icecream involved" (92 Simon). 3) "This is for the world series one out a man on second bottom of the seventh three balls one strike, oh no!! High outside, jojo more walks! (4 Simon). Explinations 1) This first qoute shows how the protagonist Eugene, is missing out on things that will determin what he will be like as an adult. He tells us that all he does is go to the store and thats all that his mom has him do, and jokingly says that all he'll ever do. 2) This next qoute is a quote that shows Eugene is still a kid at heart yet is still searching to become an adult. 3) Eugene likes to fantasies about many things, one is to become a famous baseball player some day, and this is were we see what Eugene wants for himself in the future. Qoutes 1) "She thought I knew a lot, because I knew defferent things from her well then I was way off ambitions getting deeper in love every minute and all of a sudden I didnt care" (Fitzgerald 150). 2) "He left, feeling that if he had searched harder, he might have found her-that he was leaving her behind." (Fitzgerald 153). Explinations 1)This quote shows how Gtsby loved Daisy yet he didnt know if that is what he wanted 2) Gatsby finaly finds out that who he is, is not who he wants to be, the person he was searching for, the person he wanted to become, could only be found through Daisy. Quotes 1) "I won't run into anything i can't deal with out my own" (6 Krakauer). 2) How I feed myself is none of the governments business." (6 Krakauer). 3) "This is the last communication you shall receive from me, I now walk out to live amongst the wild, take care" (69 Krakauer). 4) "There are no events but thoughts and the hearts hard turning the hearts slow learning where to love and whom the rest is merely gossip and tales for other times." (200 Krakauer). Explinations 1) This is were Chris first aknowleges that he can handle himself. 2) Chris takes charge and becomes independent and has his own set of ideals and principles. 3) Chris finally seperates himself from the rest of the world and now takes charge of his own life and he finally finds himself. Summary Thid ewemplary novel of the hazz age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The NEw York timens noted "gin was the national dreink and sex the national obsession," it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920's.
