Transcript: BOOK ROM (read only memory): is fast permanent memory used for holding instruction needed to start up the computer. RAM (random access memory): is fast temporary memory where programs and data are stored only when the power is supplied. BIOS (basic input/output system): stored in ROM and holds instructions used to "boot" the computer up when first switched on The main memory holds the program instructions and data. It contains two types of memory chip, called ROM and RAM. Output devices are used to get the result of the processing done by the computer. Most common output devices include monitor and printer. An operating system ( OS or O/S) is an interface between hardware and applications; it is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the limited resources of the computer The operating system acts as a host for applications that are run on the machine.
