Wetting and drying cycles. Pressurization and vacuum. 2, 4, 8 or 16 cycles. 11 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC 12 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Ageing tests Wet conditions: Dry conditions: Natural Ageing: Cages located outside Subjected to New Zealand weather conditions Choice of material 13 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Delamination tests The test: 6 laminae of the same wood Special care in the grain orientation Control of the density Evaluate durability performances Analysis: Mark the openings Glue failure List the cracks on Autocad Create Excel files 14 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Delamination tests Shear tests Shear tests: 15 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Shear tests: Dry, wet and aged specimens Cut from laminated blocks 10 tests for each laminated block Step-stair shear specimen Opposite stress on two adjacent layers creating shearing Shear tests: 16 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Analysis of the results: Maximal load Evaluate the percentage of wood failure Average and standard deviation Excel files 17 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC With dry conditions: Higher maximal load (40-50%). Failure is more brutal and sudden. Lower maximal displacement (mostly due to a lower ductility). Shear tests: Fracture tests Fracture tests: 18 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Fracture tests: Dry, wet and aged specimens Grain orientation Two layers of the same wood Two computers and softwares Maximal load, displacement and fracture energy Fracture tests: 19 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Fracture tests: 20 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC With dry conditions: Higher maximal load (15-25%). Failure is more brutal and sudden (mostly due to a lower ductility). Similar maximal displacement Abaqus software How to make a model: Parts Materials and sections Assembly Interactions and constraints Mesh Loads Jobs Extracting the results Abaqus software 21 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Cyclic tests Cyclic tests: 22 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Cyclic tests: Resistance of the link between two members Link made of screws and bolts Variety of profiles 23 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Cyclic tests: Cyclic tests: Tension and compression Damaged link Tearing and slippage Differences between the profiles Feedback Feedback Technical skills Social skills What could be better... 24 Geoffrey JAMOT 4GC Living abroad
