Transcript: North America The Northern Lights are caused by charged solar particles from solar storms reacting with the gas particles in the Earth's atmosphere and the Earth's magnetic field. The different colors occur because of the different types of ions becoming energised from hitting the earths atmosphere. Science In North America there are many different beliefs about the Aurora Borealis. The Cree Indians believed the Lights were spirits of the dead trying to communicate with the people they left behind. The Alonquin believed that the lights were from a fire that their creator made telling them that he was still watching over them. Cultures Geography North America is located in the northern hemisphere, and it's geography is extremely diverse. North America has high mountains, dense forests, and rocky deserts. There were were also very different people living in North America, there were the Cree Indians, the Alonquin and many different Inuit Tribes. Aurora Borealis

Firstly roll out the clay so it is a nice thickness. make sure it isn't too thin that it will fall apart and isn't too thick that it won't be flexible! notes Budapest San Francisco The Night Light! Night Light! Notes Stockholm Night Lights (cc) photo by jimmyharris on Flickr Designing (cc) photo by Franco Folini on Flickr Double click to crop it if necessary Your night light will be perfect for parties and other occasions to hand outside and place a candle in to light up! Creating Try to make your night light as creative as possible! Paint it the colors you planned unless you don't like them so sketch the colors out again. this way you make sure that your night light is as impressive as possible. Secondly cut the clay into the shape you want. if you want it to be cylinder shaped then the net will have to be a cuboid so you can construct it! outlook Paints! first, paint your night light in one color all over. This color will be the base color and the most seen. after it has dried, paint over the top onto the bits that you want to be another color. Now your ready to start designing it and remember to cut the windows out of it so the light can shine through. then fire the night light! photo frame It looks bright and impressive and your friends will love it. It's much better than going to the shops and buying one! Place your own picture behind this frame! (cc) photo by Metro Centric on Flickr details Next pick up your clay net and shape it into the shape you want. it will need a lot of pressure added to it and mold the clay together at the end so that it forms a shape! Transcript: Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) BY: Jada Marsh, Edwin Ortega What causes the Northern Lights What causes the Northern Lights? The Northern lights are collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth’s atmosphere with charged particles released from the suns atmosphere. The variations in color are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding and bumping into each other. The Northern Lights are 60 miles from the surface of the ground. Molecule Demonstration Demonstration of the molecules towards the Earth's Atmosphere in the northern lights Physics Definitions Physics Concepts. Absorption is the process or action by which one thing absorbs or is absorbed by another. The absorption of energy by oxygen and nitrogen ions causes electrons Emission/Emits- Excited Electron States- When the energy by oxygen and nitrogen ions causes electrons the electrons get "exited" They move from low energy to high energy orbitals. The northern lights form when charged particles emitted (produced) from the sun during a solar flare they go through the earth's magnetic shield and collide with atoms and molecules in our atmosphere. Absorption- The Colors The Colors The colors of the Northern Lights depend of 3 factors What atoms the charged particles collide with The speed of the collision At what altitude Because of the composition of our atmosphere varies, different colored auroras occur at different heights. A collision with oxygen atoms create green and red colors while nitrogen causes a blue/purple or a deep red light. Demonstration Video Demonstration Video
