Transcript: Football Presentation By: Tairel Fuller Facts from my Research Additional Facts I chose to research American football because it is my favorite sport and I have a deep love for the game that will never go away. My deep love for the game of American football came from playing the game with my friends daily and it comes from my father's love for the game Why I chose to research American football? What is American football? American football, referred to as football in the United States and Canada, is a sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with control of the football, attempts to advance down the field by running with or passing the ball, while the team without control of the ball, the defense, aims to stop their advance and take control of the ball for themselves "History of American football." Almost three decades later the first professional ( NFL ) football game was held in 1932 when William “Pudge“ Heffelfinger was given a $500 contract to play in a football game for the Allegheny Athletic Association against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association was formed, but was changed to the National Football Association two years later. American football resulted from several major divergences from association football and rugby football On November 6, 1969 teams from Rutgers and Princeton Universities met for the first intercollegiate football game. In those early games, there were 20 players to a team and football still more closely resembled rugby than modern football.
