Transcript: Welfare How kids are treated at the welfare What i know All I know about welfare is that it’s like a government that supports individuals that cant takes care of themselves. This sounds like its a good thing but I want to know more about how welfare affects children. Does welfare affect children in a good way or a bad way? I am also worried if there is any social inequality between the children there. If some children are treated well and if some are not treated well. How are children affected Many people are worried of how children are affected.The affect that welfare has on children is not always good.Sometimes children are happy because they are getting a new and a better family but sometimes they are said and angry because they lost their other family. social inequality I want to find more about how children are treated at welfare. The children that behave well are they treated well and the children that behave badly are they treated badly.I got this idea from the movie I watched. A boy was afraid to go to welfare and I don't think children should be afraid to go there.

Ensuring Welfare -Stress free as much as possible -Knowing the signs of agitation/stress -Heavy breathing -Rapid movements -Tail swishing -Balking -Respecting the animals flight zone What is a Flight Zone? -An imaginary circle around individual cattle that represents the area that is deemed as their personal space. Flight zone Evaluating behavior Eval. of behavior -Behavior is the actions of cattle that can be changed under different scenarios -The easiest way to evaluate an individual cattle's behavior is if they are showing normal signs or if they are doing anything out of the ordinary -chewing their cud -laying down -feeding Biggest welfare challenges when being housed in captivity Challenge -If they are in a feedlot, they aren't in their "natural habitat" -If they were raised on a ranch where they are rarely going to be around humans, it can pose a challenge when they first come to a feedlot Welfare Successes -Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Lily Edwards-Callaway -We are learning new techniques everyday to use their natural behavior to decrease their stress Success

Transcript: How it's changed during Obama's Presidency? -When the colonists arrived from Great Britain, they brought British Poor Laws. The laws made a distinction between people that couldn't work because of physical condition or age, and those who could but were unemployed. People that couldn't work received money, and those that could received jobs. -During the 1800s, there were many attempts to reform the current Welfare policy to give the poor jobs. -In 1862, a Civil War Pension Program for Civil War Veterans and their families was passed. -In 1935, FDR passed many different programs to provide aid in the New Deal. In the News Lately Since Obama took office, 13 million more Americans have become dependent on food stamps, with the numbers now hitting a record 47 million. In 2007, there were 26 million recipients. Spending on the scheme has more than doubled just since 2008. -The department of Health and Human Services, the department of housing and human services, the department of labor and the department of education are all departments that deal with social welfare. -Although these all deal with welfare, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees Welfare.
