Transcript: The divide between the two major branches of Islam has lasted for centuries -- and the schism is not always just a religious one. It began when the Prophet Muhammad died in 632 A.D. and a clash erupted over who should succeed him. One side, which became the Shiites, believed Muhammad’s successor should be someone from his bloodline; those who spawned the Sunnis held it could be a pious individual who could follow Muhammad’s customs. Yesterday at 12 o'clock two extreme groups of Shia and Sunni Muslims met during a demonstration and that's when all started. Hazara people ready to fight The Kite Runner Socioeconomic inequality increased significantly after free market policies were initiated by Hafez al-Assad in his later years, and accelerated after Bashar al-Assad came to power. With an emphasis on the service sector, these policies benefited a minority of the nation's population, mostly people who had connections with the government, and members of the Sunni merchant class of Damascus and Aleppo. MUSLIM NEWS Years after banishment they want to come back The conflict between the Hazara and the Pashtun started when Abdur Rahman Khan became the ruler of Afghanistan. Abdur Rahman Khan favored the Pashtun people and despised the Hazara people. The Hazara people are nomads that were forced to live in the Kazarasjat Mountains by the government. A reason that the government loathed the Hazara people is they are Shiite Muslims. This war is mostly over ethnicicity. The Pashtun people are Sunni Muslims and are willing to do anything to wipe out the Hazara people. The conflict kept going because the Hazara people were willing to fight for their rights and property. "The book said part of the reason Pashtuns had oppressed the Hazaras was that Pashtuns were Sunni Muslims, while Hazaras were Shi'a. (...) It also said some things I did know, like that people called Hazaras mice-eating, flat-nosed, load-carrying donkeys." $1.25 "It doesn't matter, if he's Pashtun or Hazara. What matters is that we somehow managed to cooperate together and help other person. Maybe in the future this long confict will finally end and seing Pashtun and Hazana people together won't be so suprising", said one of the boys. Again Despite the conflict between Pashtun and Hazara people, a group of young people managed to help a 82-year old Farooq Leghari to escape from decrepit house and saved his life. Surprisingly, in this group there were two Pashtun and 3 Hazara boys who set their conflict aside and without and arguments hepled the old man. Rising tension between Shia and Sunni Muslims Bashar al-Assad changes good only for Sunni Heavy monsoon rains and floods across Pakistan during the first week of September 2014 killed at least 250 people and more than half a million people had been affected. The rivers Ravi, Sutlej, and Jhelum overflowed and brought flash floods, which caused homes to collapse in the Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir regions. More than 28,000 people have been affected in AJK and Punjab. Transcript: There is no exact date recorded of when clothing was initially created, but scientists concluded that it would have been around 170,000 years ago due to a study of head lice which evolved when humans first started to wear clothes. https://www.walmart.com/cp/mens-clothing/133197 Clothing Made Today https://www.seeker.com/humans-first-wore-clothing-170000-years-ago-1765156178.html IS IT WORTH IT TO BUY EXPENSIVE CLOTHING? The most common type of clothing made today is created from cotton. Once it is maturely harvested, it is then placed in an electrically powered cotton gin that cleans and removes seeds from the cotton. After that, the cotton is weaved through a machine into fabric and then it is called "grey goods" which is what manufacturers use to make and design clothes. So basically the case for whether you should purchase expensive clothes or not solely relies on your budget. Although the previous slide contained high priced clothing, one should not let that stop you from investing in clothing at moderate prices. A survey from 100 people proved that anywhere from the 75$-200$ price range is considered a great investment in expensive clothing. The fabric that the clothing is made with will endure longer most likely than the clothes from Walmart. (no offense) So, in my opinion you should buy moderately expensive expensive clothes because it's worth it. Sources Additional Ancient Clothes History of Clothing Rome Cost of different types of clothing Egypt Because of the heat, cold and rain, clothing was initially created by humans as a form of protection from such outdoor weather long before it was solely considered to be worn just for fashion. The more common types of clothing were produced from animals, such as leather, fur and the skins. Other types came from natural resources such as grass. IS IT WORTH IT TO BUY EXPENSIVE CLOTHES?

Transcript: LET'S GET STARTED WRITING EFFECTIVE HEADLINES First, some practice... 2 Headlines What do you think these news stories could be about? Environmental Protection Agency Proposes New Emission Standards for Power Plants NEW YORK TIMES The Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday proposed the first national standard for emissions of mercury and other pollutants from coal-burning power plants, a rule that could lead to the early closing of a number of older plants and one that is certain to be challenged by the some utilities and Republicans in Congress. Lisa P. Jackson, the agency’s administrator, said control of dozens of poisonous substances emitted by power plants was long overdue and would prevent thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of cases of disease a year. Ms. Jackson pointedly included the head of the American Lung Association and two prominent doctors in her announcement to make the point that the regulations were designed to protect public health and not to penalize the utility industry. Canadian nuclear watchdog requests review CBC News The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission is asking for a review of all Canadian nuclear plants in light of the disaster in Japan. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission is asking for a review of all Canadian nuclear plants in light of the disaster in Japan. The in-depth review would also include Atomic Energy Canada Ltd.'s Chalk River Laboratories facility, located northwest of Ottawa. Ramzi Jammal, the chief regulatory officer at the commission, requested the review of nuclear safety and control regulations on Thursday in a memo sent to Hydro-Quebec, NB Power, Ontario Power Generation, Bruce Power and AECL. How to write an effective headline DO - use key words; then add an action verb - use less than 10 words - use simple words - give your main idea in the headline - grab the reader's attention! DON"T - use complicated words - use slang or cliches - use abbreviations Can you come up with a good headline for one of these stories? To complete your Building Block: 1. Choose three key words or phrases from your Building Block Planning Sheet. 2.Use each in a newspaper headline that describes a government action that did--or did not--meet the diverse needs of Canadians. 3. Make your headlines "look like" newspaper headlines (use chart paper and large font; see examples in the Toronto Star or these examples) Your newspaper headlines must: show your knowledge and understanding of the government actions you have chosen show that you have created headlines based on the criteria our class has established to judge whether a government action has benefitted Canadians in need use key words and phrases to effectively express and communicate your message effectively convey an authentic sense of the issues of the 1920s and 1930s OTTAWA Prime Minister Stephen Harper says Canada will help enforce a no-fly zone over Libya. Transcript: The Sun is a daily tabloid newspaper published in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Had an average daily circulation of 2.2 million copies in March 2014. This is one of the few mastheads which I have chosen to look at which is following a red and white colour scheme. This is a bright shade of red which is very eye-catching. The word 'Sun' is written in a larger font than the word 'THE' suggesting that the publishers are more focused on the audience seeing 'SUN'. The masthead is written in a bold font in order to stand out to readers, by using white writing against a bright red background allows more emphasis on the writing. This is another newspaper which follows a red colour scheme, only this time the background is white leaving only the writing to stand out which is not as eye-catching as THE Sun's masthead. MASTHEAD 2 The Sunderland Echo is an evening newspaper serving the Sunderland, South Tyneside and East Durham areas of North East England. As of Dec 2014, the paper had an average daily circulation of 18,876, with around 48,500 readers, and a very active website. The Daily Mirror is a British national daily tabloid newspaper founded in 1903. It had an average daily print circulation of 962,670 in March 2014. This masthead could be seen as being more subtle and sophisticated with a black, white and red colour scheme. It has white text with a black outline offering a more pleasant view, the red background being toned down also does not make it as eye-catching. Sunderland Echo £1.25 Tuesday, October 20, 2015 RED MASTHEADS MASTHEAD 1 The Sun Red top tabloids employ a form of writing known as tabloid journalism, newspapers holding this features are usually accused of deliberately igniting controversy and selectively reporting on attention-grabbing stories.
