Styles are formatting tools that will help the author maintain cohesive structure throughout their work. Styles But are styles useful? Usefulness When it comes to correspondence in a professional setting having a properly structured and formatted document is extremely important. The application of styles prevents mistakes in font, text size, spacing and color that can happen when manually formatting a document. Accessing Styles Applying styles 1) Open Microsoft Word. 2) Select the Home. 3) At the top of the word document find the styles tile and click the Expand arrow. This opens a drop down menu titled "Styles". Note: This can also be accessed using the key combination CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + S on a windows computer. 4) Highlight any text that needs to be formatted. 5) Scroll through the styles menu to find the appropriate option for the highlighted section and click the style.
