Transcript: Flashcards Template (6 - 10) 6. Title of the task How´s our school? 7. Activity description Pre-activity: The aim: test student's prior knowledge and have a first contact in a very dynamic way of the topic we are going to work on, trying to involve them as much as possible in their learning. The activity consists of a card game in which matching pairs must be selected from memory from cards laid face down. The name will appear on one of the pair's cards and the image on the other. In groups of 4 people, students will play in teams making relays. The person who matches a pair, must write a sentence on the whiteboard. 8. Content Activity: The name of the activity is "The magic box" The theme is all about school and the flashcards have been divided into three colors: Green for material, yellow for places and pink for sports and games. 1. The first step is to show the children all the flashcards as a final review before starting the activity. 2. Then, all the flashcards will be put into the magic box. Then ask for a volunteer to start the activity. 3. The chosen volunteer will have to open the box and take out a flashcard at random. It is important to remind them that they cannot show the card to the rest of their classmates. 4. The student must mime the action, object or place on their flashcard, and the others will try to guess it. In case they had difficulty guessing any of them, they could ask some simple questions such as: - Is it an action or an object? But, wait, there is a trick. Once the student has seen the flashcard inside the box, he/she has to decide whether to interpret what is on the flashcard or something else. When the rest of the students have guessed the action, they must also decide whether the mime is lying or is really interpreting what he/she was supposed to. Template (16 & 17) Post-Activity: The treasure hunt consists of a tour around the school with different areas where the clues are hidden to find out how to get to the next area and finally finish the treasure hunt. Example: the clues will be sentences completed with flash cards instead of words in certain parts, the pupils will have to decipher the sentence and go to the next area. Go as if you were (cooking flashcard) to the (kitchen flashcard) and get an (apple flashcard). Once they get to the kitchen, they will find another sentence like this with the following instructions and area to go to. The content of the activities will be vocabulary related to school environment and actions. Objects such as pencil case, blackboard, rubber, chalk... and actions like swimming, cooking, jumping... will be used for these three activities. Template (1 - 5) Template (11 - 17) 10. Interaction 9. General objectives 16. Instructions 17. Evaluation 1. Type of resource Purpose of the task: To discover and learn a wide variety of useful vocabulary in a very dynamic and fun way. Pre-activity: 1. Show some flashcards so they get familiarized with them. 2. Explain the activity by giving an example. (“Now we are going to play a game, it is call “PAIRS” and what we have to do is to match pairs of cards laid face down by using our memory. After matching one pair you must write a sentence on a white paper using the word written in the card, so we can share them later. Let's make an example…) 3. Once we have finished matching pairs and writing the sentences, we will share these last so we can hear what they have written and give feedback. Flashcards 2. Skills to be developed Linguistic objectives: - To be able to understand the vocabulary used in the activities. - To understand and use simple grammatical structures that we are going to use. High level of participation and interaction. Activity: 1. Now they are familiarized with the flashcards. However, we must show the flashcards to the students one last time before the start of the activity and make sure that they pay attention and understand correctly the vocabulary we are going to work with. 2. Ask for volunteers. Another option if we want they all to participate is to set some kind of random order such as assign numbers or even use the class list. 3. Explain the activity. We must do so with determination and optimism. We will first of all use ourselves as a role model, this showing initiative and warming up the atmosphere and encouraging the pupils to try it themselves. 4. Make a demo round. Before starting the game, we will do a first test round in order to complete a full explanation. 11. Class management Learning outcomes: - Be able to recognize and match each word with the corresponding picture. - Understand the meaning of the words that they have been working with. - Be able to use the vocabulary they have learned in their daily lives. 12. Use of TPR 3. Grade / Students´ age Reading, spoken interaction and writing. Post-activity: 1. Now that we are familiarized with flashcards, we will explain the next activity. 2.
