Onboarding is: Announcement of the new hire Organization welcome letter The Buddy Program - Roles & Responsibilities What could have been done: The hiring manager or section designee could have improved the initial experience by ensuring these actions were taken, either personally or by coordinating with a department manager: 1. Arrange for the workspace to be ready. 2. Create a schedule for the employee’s first day and week. 3. Schedule time with the new employee to meet on the first day then periodically in their first weeks and months. Effective employee Onboarding serves five interrelated purposes: It builds the Division of Administration’s REPUTATION for being a thoughtful employer, with great training, clear leadership, and a strong organization. It helps RETAIN staff members. It REDUCES high turnover costs. It enables new employees to achieve efficient PRODUCTIVITY levels quickly.
