Pie Chart Letter You are expected to write a short linear text of 150-200 words based on: 1. Book 2. Report 3. Letter 4. News Report The most obvious result which could be seen from the line graph is the rapid decrease of attendance starting from Tuesday until Friday. In my opinion, the decrease happens because students start to lose passion in the middle of the week. Therefore, to maintain full attendance every day, lecturers should do pop quizzes with marks so that students will think twice before skipping lecture. The most obvious result is on Friday, whereby the students’ attendance is the least on that day. In my opinion, this is probably because students have started to go back home and plan for their weekend. Linear Text A bar graph Used to show comparisons between variables. The graph shows both an increase and decrease throughout the week. Starting on Monday, the number of students present for lecture is 40. There is a slight increase on Tuesday, whereby the attendance is 50. On Wednesday, the students’ attendance decrease to 45. The internet usage has a steep increase at night, which reaches a total To differentiate linear and non-linear text. Know the examples of linear and non-linear text To interpret non-linear text News Report Line Graph Examples of Non-Linear Texts Lesson Outcome Study the following examples of non-linear texts and see how these can be analyzed to extract only the relevant information. Question Non-Linear What is the most important information? Should only be based on the given diagram Which is the most outstanding result. Mention the obvious without making any external assumptions. of 90 people using the internet. The most obvious results which could be seen is the rapid increase of internet usage from afternoon to night. In my opinion, there is a decrease from morning to the afternoon because in the mornings, people need the internet for work and to start off their day. The internet usage increases again and is the highest at night probably because people are relaxed at home and this is the best time to update friends and social media. Therefore, if the internet company decides to upgrade or fix their line, they should consider doing it during the afternoon, where less people use the internet at that time. Linear and Non-Linear Text Analyze (skim) the graph Skim through the graph to get a general idea of the information given Highlight the title, labels, and any notes provided What is the general trend of the diagram? Is it decreasing / increasing / consistent / fluctuating ? To denote a rise: *Increase steadily / a steep increase / a gradual increase / increase rapidly To denote a drop: *Decrease steadily / a steep drop / a gradual decrease / decrease rapidly To describe a little change *Stable / remain constant / unchanged To show comparison *More than / less than / higher than / lower than / highest / lowest Comes from the word "line" The reading texts are presented within the straight lines Book How to analyze and interpret non-linear text? Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.
