Transcript: Mathilde has to face her friend and tell her the truth about the lost necklace. by. will alexis and tyler Irony- When Mathilde liked the necklace so much she said it looked fake, at the end when she decides to tell the truth, finds out the necklace is fake. Resolution- Finally, Mathilde decides to confront her friend and tell her the truth about the lost diamond necklace. Her friend tells her it wasn't real diamonds, the necklace was fake. By: Guy de Maupassant Characterization: Mathilde- Mathilde is a very selfish women.She only cares about her appearance and how people view her. Mr. Loisel- Mr. Loisel was very caring. He gave up is hunting money for Mathilde to make her happy. He doesn't care about everyone, not just himself. The setting in this story takes place in Paris, France during the 1800's. Exposition- Mathilde and Mr.Loisel are invited to a ball, Mathilde borrows a very expensive necklace, by the end of the night, it seems to be lost. Conflict- Man vs. Self Protagonist- Mathilde Antagonist- Mr. Loisel Flashback- There is no flashback in the short story. Foreshadowing- When the author describes how much the necklace was and how valuable it is. Theme- The lesson learned was to always tell the truth no matter what situation your in. Always be happy for what you have. Rising Action- Mathilde uses Mr. Loisel's hunting money to buy a dress for the ball. She borrows very expensive jewls from her good friend to make herself look rich. "The Necklace" Climax- When Mathilde comes home from the ball and realizes the necklace was missing. Falling Action- When Mathilde decides to work for ten years to replace her friends diamond necklace. She works by cleaning wealthy peoples house's, moves into a smaller house, and becomes poor. setting
