Reno, the inventor of the escalator, graduated from Lehigh in 1883. It's considered bad luck to step on the university seal engraved in the Leadership Plaza pavestones outside the Alumni Memorial Building. The "brown cow" was the nickname they gave to their first brown and white school bus. Lehigh's Alma Mater Where the Lehigh's rocky rapids Rush from out the West, Mid a grove of spreading chestnuts Walls in ivy dressed. On the breast of old South Mountain Reared against the sky, Stands our noble Alma Mater, Stands our dear Lehigh. Like a watchman on the mountain Stands she grandly bold, Earth's and Heaven's secret seeking, Hoarding them like gold. All she wrests from Nature's storehouse Naught escapes her eye, Gives she gladly to her dear ones, While we bless Lehigh. We will ever live to love her, Live to praise her name, Live to make our lives add luster To her glorious fame. Let the glad notes wake the echo, Joyfully we cry: Hail to thee, our Alma Mater; Hail, all hail, Lehigh. Traditions: Colors-brown and white Mascot- Mountain Hawk Motto- "Homo Minister et Interpres Naturaeman" which means, "Man, the servant and interpreter of nature." Fight Songs: Lehigh Will Shine- Lehigh will shine tonight, Lehigh will shine; Lehigh will shine tonight, Lehigh will shine; Lehigh will shine tonight, Lehigh will shine; When the sun goes down and the moon comes up, Lehigh will shine Rearing, Tearing- Rearing, tearing down the field, down the field, Lehigh's team will never yield, never yield! Past the last white line that marks the goal, And brings a victory again to old Lehigh. And when the big Brown team goes crashing through, crashing through, Rivals don't know what to do, what to do. Rooters cheer another victory for old Lehigh. Athletics Lehigh University Admission Campus Lehigh has 4 schools of study: P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science College of Business and Economics College of Arts and Sciences College of Education Kyle Mansley Wrestling Introduction Rankings Unlike other engineering schools of the day, Lehigh was envisioned as a university instead of an "institute of technology," offering an education that was rooted in both scientific and classical traditions as espoused by John Amos Comenius. Initially there were five schools: four scientific (civil engineering, mechanical engineering, mining and metallurgy, and analytical chemistry) and one of general literature. Goodman Stadium on the Lehigh Campus Asa Parker Over the past several decades it has turned out 136 All-Americans and had numerous squads finish with Top 20 NCAA national rankings, including the highest finish at the NCAA tournament as 2nd in 1939. U.S. News & World Report ranked Lehigh 41st among national universities in its 2014 edition of "Best Colleges". Entrepreneur Magazine and The Princeton Review named Lehigh the 24th best undergraduate college for entrepreneurship in 2012. The Wall Street Journal in June 2010 ranked Lehigh as number 12 in the nation for return on investment (ROI) when comparing the average career earnings of a graduate to the cost of an education. Lehigh University is an American private research university located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1865 by businessman Asa Packer The stock market crash accompanying the Panic of 1893 was a major financial blow to the university, since its endowment was largely invested in stocks, particularly shares of Lehigh Valley Railroad donated by the founder. As a consequence, Lehigh decided to drop its Episcopal Church affiliation in 1897, allowing it to qualify for state and federal government aid. Programs
