Transcript: Pink Hydrangeas Symptoms Optimum pH The soil acidifier helps to lower the pH level in the soil. The acidifier is used to help achieve the blue color in the hydrangea. - Must be applied several times throughout the growing season Tina Nguyen, Anna Lopatina, Anton Carlestam Fertilizer The type of fertilizer used is important because different fertilizers have different characteristics and different components so the fertilizer should be picked according to what type of plant it is for. - We have learned about how pH relies on ionic product of water (kw) - We have learned about acids and base Blue Hydrangeas Fertilizer For the flower to turn blue, the aluminum has to be added to the soil. Global warming causes a chlorosis epidemic in plants and affects the pH of soil and freshwater resources. Different types of fertilizer affects the color change of hydrangea - Low in Phosphorus and high in Potassium help produce blue hydrangea - Rate of 25/5/30 - High in Phosphorus helps produce pink hydrangea - Rate of 25/10/10 Hydrangea Evergreen Plants How does this relate to what we’re doing in class? Effects Higher pH = more chlorotic The optimum pH level has to be low - 5.2 – 5.5 - Inorder for aluminum to be available for the plant, the hydrogen level has to be low or else it cancels out the presence of aluminum in the soil Starts paling More yellow indicates more serious conditions Evergreen Plants -Effects the organs - The lack of iron - Unhealthy roots and poor drainage pH level Chlorosis - yellowing of a leaf tissue - due to lack in chlorophyll - causes: - damaged roots, poor drainage, compacted roots, high alkalinity, and nutrient dficiencies Soil Acidifier For the Hydrangeas to change the color from blue to pink the aluminum has to be subtracted from the soil. The optimum pH, for the flower to turn pink, should be 6.0 to 6.2, because hydrangeas take up aluminum best at lower pH levels, so raising the level of pH will slower down the whole process.

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.
