Root word 'Pra' means its orgin is divine Meekness does NOT mean weakness it means "gentle strength" en- "in the sphere of" Can only be accomplished by the power of the Lord Fruit of the Spirit Background on Paul's Letter to the Church in Galatia You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself”. If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other Fruit Trees “Growers often neglect the annual training and pruning of fruit trees. Without training and pruning, however, fruit trees will not develop proper shape and form. Properly trained and pruned trees will yield high quality fruit much earlier in their lives and live significantly longer.” Pruning and Training= Spiritual Disciplines’ Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other peithô Is a "divinely balanced" quality that only comes from faith. Romans 12:3: Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don't think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.. Transcript: James 1:17 Fruit needs food and water to grow. We take in the "food' of the Bible and we drink the "water" of the Spirit. Reading the Bible and living in the Spirit pleases God greatly!! When we memorize His Word and live according to It, God is Happy!! As the fruit of the Spirit grows in us, we have a good effect on those around us. They will see our love and concern for them and be drawn to the character of Christ in us. What has God done for you this past week that you are thankful for??? Ephesians 2:10 "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." "Every good & perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the Heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." Fruit of the Spirit John 15:8 "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples." We are called to live by faith and embrace the new life that God has given us. We live honest, loyal, clean lives avoiding sexual immorality, lying, cursing and evil New Character We can not be good apart from God. Growing Fruit What kind of fruit is in your life? Everyting that is good comes from God alone. The new life of bearing fruit is NOT a matter of trying hard to be good, but it is a matter of allowing God to enter and do His work within. Healthy trees produce healthy fruit. When we abide in Jesus and live the Spirit filled life we will begin to see the Fruit of the Spirit grow in our lives. Galatians 5:22,23 "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self-control. Against such things, there is no law. Our new life with Christ requires that we strive to live like Jesus...We are called to develop good character and honesty. The 1st to raise their hand, get called upon by the teacher, and recite the verse we just looked at, by memory - will get a candy bar at the end of class. YOU MUST BE CORRECT - WORD FOR WORD!! God at Work Within Ephesians 5:2-4 "And live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality or any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, But rather Thanksgiving."

In so doing, tranquility will be our tone, control, and our composure. This will be fueled from our harmonious relationship with God— handing over control of our hearts, will, and minds to Him. We are willing to make peace with others because we have found peace with God. Thus, we can live at peace with our neighbors, proclaiming serenity and rekindling it when it goes down or is lost. Philippians 4:7- and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Love PEACE This calls for showing tolerance and fortitude toward others, even accepting difficult situations with them—and God—without making demands or conditions. Patience is our “staying power.” It is like perseverance and the endurance to not give up; it is about actively overcoming our situation—not just sitting, accepting, and doing nothing! It allows us to endure a less than desirable situation, to make us better, more useful, and even optimistic and prudent. Colossians 1:11; 3:11- strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; ... Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; Joy is our focus on Christ as Lord; this allows us to enjoy our relationship with Him, His creation, and others, regardless of our circumstances, with an expression of delight and real, authentic happiness that comes from and with harmony with God and others. Joy in James refers to declaring our situation as happy and fulfilling, even when it is not. It is to change our mindset and focus. It is realizing the sovereignty of God and that He is in control, even when life seems to be turned upside down and inside out! Joy helps us understand God’s perspective and gives us the confidence and patience to endure anything. Joy is not happiness, because we may not be content and pleased with it; rather, joy is hope. It is our real hope. It is not a meager wish; rather, it is the unshakable confidence of our future in Christ. Our pleasure comes from knowing He is in charge and caring for us This is allowing God to be in control of our will and hearts, and to be diligent in seeking the Spirit to enable us. We can know what not to do, and guard the areas in which we are weak. This will allow us to have discipline and restraint, with obedience to God and others. It is not allowing distractions to derail or remove us from His will and plan, so we will not be held back from what Christ has called us to do. This comes down to how we trust in our Lord, we can trust God for the future because we can see what He has done in the past 1 Corinthians 9:25- And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. KINDNESS PATIENCE Faithfulness is the application of our faith in action; because we are saved by Christ, He dwells in our hearts. Thus, we are infused with dependability because as we praise His name, it hits home in our being. It is not faith itself; rather, it is the fruit and character of faith. It is the “gluing” fruit that will preserve our faith and the other characters of the Spirit, and identify God's will, so we can be dependable and trusting to God and others. Faith is the one fruit that we give back to God, whereas faithfulness and the other fruits, virtues, and characters are from the Spirit working in us! Matthew 25:21- "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' FAITHFULNESS JOY FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT Love makes us complete and allows us to have the other characteristics in our lives. Without love we cannot have the others. Love enables us to appreciate our brothers and sisters in the Lord and, of course, our family and others around us. Love is taking the initiative to build up and meet the needs of others, without expecting anything in return. We must allow love to be the foundation of our relationships Romans 13:10- Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Colossians 3:14- But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. The Fruit of the Spirit has showed me that the Christian life comes with a responsibility to take the knowledge I have gleaned from His Word, My faith, discipleship, prayer, and devotional life, and then applying it while His love is working in and through me! These fruits of the spirit will benefit the community in 3 ways. The fruit of the spirit produced in each individual believer function in the body of Christ by: 1) doing, 2) encouraging, and 3) guarding. Transcript: Where can we look to discover what joy truly is? In Gods word (duhhh). There are many verses that talk about joy in the Bible. Since His Word is our truth, it is the first place we should turn to learn more about this fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23- "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law" If joy is a fruit of the Spirit, what do we already know about joy? With the Holy Spirit we can have joy no matter what. Kindle Curiosity "Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart." The psalmist is talking about God's Word. He is saying that Gods Word is his forever, and it is joy of his heart. Why do you think God's Word is the joy of his heart? Can anyone tell me what JOY is? Psalm 119:111 We know that we can have joy through the Holy Spirit producing His fruit within us. We also know that God is our joy and that we experience joy through His Word. How is it possible to have joy, to praise God, in difficult times? Lesson 5-24-14 Fruit of the Spirit God is our joy, and the more we know Him, the greater our joy becomes. We can experience joy when we read God’s Word. We can experience joy when we remember how much Christ suffered for us and how He is worth suffering for now. And we can experience joy when we remember the hope we have of spending all of eternity with God without suffering or sadness. However, if we are not abiding in God , we cannot expect to have the fruit of joy produced within us. ld be like taking away the water and sunlight from a fruit tree. God Revealed Now let COLOR!!!! In our lives here on Earth, we will always have sorrow and tears. Because of sin, we will never be able to experience a life with out sadness. But when we repent from our sin and turn to Christ for our salvation, we receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit allows us to produce the fruit of joy. Even in our sadness, we can choose to have joy and praise God. So, because we have the Holy Spirit, we can have JOY God Revealed If we are abiding in Christ, we will have the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and we can say, “I am going through suffering, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:18, ESV).

You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits. MATTHEW 7:15-20 THE PURPOSE OF OUR CHRISTIAN LIFE IS TO BEAR FRUIT. The fruit of the Spirit is referred to in the singular, not the plural as normally done in the case of many fruit, indicating that the fruit of the Spirit is one, with several manifestations. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude.
