Transcript: Numbers 10:32 "And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee." Love Gentleness God wants us to give Him control of our lives. Relying on our own logic, we have no impetus to submit to God's leadership. But gentleness places our strength under God's guidance; it is a powerful tool for God's kingdom. I have struggled with self-control and patience in the past. Growing up with siblings its hard to wait for things that they got instantly of to not retaliate when they do something but as I’ve grown a relationship with god I’ve been able to put faith in him and realize that everything happens for a reason Exodus 20:6 "...and showing covenant faithfulness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." Fruit of the Spirit Faithfulness 1 John 4:12 No-one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us Evaluation Kindness Goodness One of the proofs of God’s working in our lives is the ability to control our own thoughts, words, and actions. It’s not that we are naturally weak-willed. But our fallen nature is under the influence of sin Philippians 4:5, "Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near." we cannot force another to be at peace with each other, even Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross did not ensure that we would accept His terms of peace. Instead we are to submit our wills to God's leading and our actions to God's Word, but the actual results are up to Him. Only God can create peace through the work of the Holy Spirit Goodness is virtue and holiness in action. It results in a life characterized by deeds motivated by righteousness and a desire to be a blessing John 15:11: The fullness of joy comes to those who continue in the love of Christ and obey Him. Kindness is the characteristic that led God to provide salvation for us. Kindness leads God to give us green pastures, quiet waters, and the restoration of our souls when we're weary. It is God's tender care that makes Him want to gather us under His wings, to protect us and keep us close to Him Possessing joy is a choice. We choose whether to value God's presence, promises, and work in our lives In order to love someone, you don't have to be in a relationship or be close with them. you don't have to hug or tell them that you love them. Loving someone can be as simple as respecting them, showing kindness and gratitude towards them and not judging them Self- Control Faithfulness is steadfastness, constancy, or allegiance; it is carefulness in keeping what we are entrusted with; it is the conviction that the Scriptures accurately reflect reality Peace Romans 12:18 "If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men." Patience Joy Sophie Holland Deuteronomy 5:10 "...and doing kindness to thousands, to those loving Me, and to those keeping My commands." Losing patience is a sign of weakness. We are patient through trying situations out of hope for a coming deliverance; we are patient with a trying person out of compassion. Proverbs 16:32 "Patience is better than power, and controlling one's temper, than capturing a city." add logo here

Discuss a time when "gifts" had a good effect on your life? Discuss an experience you have had with someone's poor usage of gifts. The Holy Spirit Gifts of the Spirit Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Fruit Fruit of the Spirit What? 1. To Build the Body... 1 Corinthians 13:4 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. How? Name your worst present or gift ever. Name your worst fruit story ever. 1. To Show Obedience to Jesus John 13:34. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. Why? Philippians 2:13 For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. What? Psalm 1:3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season. Whose leaf does not wither and whose way will prosper. John 15:2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so it will be even more fruitful. (John 15:2) 2. ...For the work of the Ministry Ephesians 4:7, 11, 12 7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it...11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Describe the relationship of the gift to the tree. Fruit, Gifts and how Christians can be strange. How? John 20:21-22 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 3. To Identify True Christians Matthew 7:16-20 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Discuss your own journey in this area using the same chart. Gifts 1 Corinthians 13:7-11 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. 2. To Communicate God's Love to the World John 13:35. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Why?

We Cant Produce Fruit Without Him John 15:1-8 Jesus told his disciples when the Holy Spirit came that they would be witnesses telling people about Him everywhere. Matthew 3:11 The fruit of the spirit that we talked about last week put Gods character on display. The Gifts of the Spirit put Gods POWER on display Spiritual Gift listed in Romans 12:6-8 are: -prophesy, teacher, preacher, giving, healing, leadership, encourager, and finally the gift of kindness. Remain in me and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. John 15:4 "So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more would your heavenly father gift the gift of the Holy Spirit to those who ask him." - Luke 11:22 1 Corinthians 3:16 Three things will last forever faith, hope, & LOVE - and the greatest of these is love. What is Spiritual Fruit? 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, bu didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging symbol. "Remain in the Vine" Manifestations of The Spirit Receiving the Holy Spirit -The first question in the Purple Book asks us how can we bring glory to the Father and from reading John chapter 15 we see that we can bring glory to the Father by bearing "good fruit." -These verses talk a lot about spiritual fruit, in your opinion what does that mean? Spiritual Gifts What happens to the Fruit? What are the fruits of the Spirit? WARNING After Jesus ascended to Heaven He told His disciples stay and WAIT for the Holy Spirit to fall upon them and fill them with the power from Heaven. - Luke 24:49 & Acts 1:4-5 Why do you guys think that Jesus felt that it was so important that His disciples be filled with the Holy Spirit by making them wait? The ways in which we can physically see the Holy Spirit in our everyday life are talked about in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Paul tells the church of Corinth that they are : - Gift of giving wise advice, giving words of knowledge, gift of healing, The gift to perform miracles, the gift of prophesy, and the gift to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or another spirit. Gift of tongues and the gift to interpret. "He alone decides which gift each person should have" 1 Corinthians 12:11 1 Corinthians 14 "Prophecy" Acts 1:8 After Jesus Ascended To Heaven - We learned from the scripture that the branches of the grapevine the do not produce will be cut off. - Why does God cut off the branches that do not bare fruit? - In contrast to God cutting off the dead branches that do not produce fruit He also prunes the branches that DO product fruit so that we can continue to produce more and more. -Verb Trim (a tree, shrub, or bush) by cutting away dead or overgrown branches or stems, esp. to increase fruitfulness and growth. He had an for fashion, wearing clothing made of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. He lived in the desert wilderness, ate locust and wild honey. Most importantly he spoke with authority and new he was here to fulfill a purpose. Spiritual Gift - In 1 Corinthians 13:13 it talks about how we are the Temple and that the Holy Spirit is living within each of us. We are Gods temple, and the Holy Spirit is now dwelling in us. We show this to others when we display the fruit of the Spirit. "The Purple Book" The Holy Spirit & Spiritual Gifts - If fruit falls from the tree in which it was connected to it will eventually wither away and die. The Same is true for us as believers. If we decide to fall away from

Fruit of the Spirit

Transcript: What does "the desires of the flesh" mean? What does it mean to "walk by the Spirit?" Take those thoughts out of your head and put hands and feet on them. What does it mean practically? What does verse 16 say the opposite of wanting to do sinful things is? Check out John 15:4 below. What are the connections between what John says about bearing fruit and what Paul says in Galatians? Reread verses 19-21. Have you ever done any of those things? Are you still going to Heaven(vs 18)? What is Paul saying then? What does it mean to have joy? How is joy different than happiness? Where does joy come from? When is joy difficult and happiness impossible? When has Jesus shown us what true joy is? Stuck? Check out Heb. 12:2 Of all the listed traits love is the most significant. Why? Stumped? Check out verses 6 and 14. What does it mean to love? Is our love different from God's love? How can walking by the Spirit help you become better at being loving? Who is most patient with you? What make you say that? How patient is the Lord with you? Who is it most difficult to be patient with(don't name names just give a description of the person's actions). Why is it challenging to have patience? How could walking with the Lord more closely change the way you deal with this situation? 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5: 16-21 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. What does it mean to be faithful? What makes faithfulness almost impossible without the spirit? How does faithfulness show up in the life of someone who walks with the Lord? Can you share a time that the Lord was faithful to you(not a family member)? Would you share a time that it was really difficult to show self-control? Can you think of a time when you know for sure the Lord helped you control yourself? How can we get help from the Lord whenever we are having trouble showing self-control? How can you walk "with the Lord" when you have a lack of self-control? Get really practical here. What does gentleness mean? Name some things that it means practically? What are some ways that you are/aren't gentle? How is God gentle with you? How could walking with the Spirit change how you respond to others? Are there people that are more difficult to be kind to than others? What makes it more difficult? Do you think that walking with the spirit would be helpful in this? Why/Why not? How would you walk with the spirit, practically? How can you have peace in a time that is overwhelming? Have you ever had a time when life was overwhelming? Were you or someone else involved in the situation able to be at peace? 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 What does that look like in real life, practically. Does walking with the Spirit make this any easier to do? Why/why not? Goodness- in man is not a mere passive quality, but the deliberate preference of right to wrong, the firm and persistent resistance of all moral evil, and the choosing and following of all moral good M.
