Verse 11 says the gifts are given according to God's sovereign will ("as he determines"). Ephesians 4:12 tells us these gifts are given to prepare God's people for service and for building up the body of Christ. Spiritual Gifts The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 4:11-14, “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” Pray Read your Bible Spiritual Gift Test Apply & Evaluate Without love it's worthless - Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” Avoid the noise & Find what your gifts are and use them to build up the body of Christ What do you know? Transcript: Someone once told me that in order to show that you fully understand something, you must be able to teach it to someone else. As God pours into me and grants me understanding, He can use this gift for me to share and teach other people. I can teach my family, friends, and people I don't know what I learn about God. Service Compassion for those suffering physically, mentally, or emotionally. Exhortation Giving And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful. Titus 3:14 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. Mark 10:45 A gift from God A special ability to comfort others in the body of Christ through words of comfort, courage, and counsel at times of need or crisis Prophecy The ability to explain God's truth so there is understanding and application in the lives of others. The ability to proclaim God's truth without compromise. There are so many lies floating around and many of them seem to sound true. It is vital that people understand the truth and not fall prey to lies and deceit. God can use this gift to help boldly proclaim His truth and leave no way to compromise with the things of this world Spiritual Gifts As a college student, God could use me to encourage my brothers and sisters to not be discouraged over not doing well in things that they hoped they would such as in classes. I could encourage them to do the best that they can and not dwell on what they cannot handle We all need help at some point in our lives. Most people seldom wish to ask for help and when they do get help, they don't want to be pitied. The gift of service is a great gift especially because that service is done through Christ and love. It doesn't make people feel bad about needing help, rather it draws them closer to God. God can use this gift for me to help others in need rather cooking dinner and washing clothes or babysitting for a mom or dad in need. Teaching As a member of the body, I interact with many different people on a daily basis. We are all imperfect people and we make mistakes. God can use this gift of mercy for me to have compassion on others and seek ways to help and forgive rather than division and strife arise. The ability to give material goods and financial resources with joy, so that the needs of the Lord's work are met. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1: 19-21 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28: 18-20 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. Zechariah 7:9 Spiritual Gifts Administration Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Mercy It is vital to have order and utilize good organization skills. God can use this gift for me to become a better steward of the time He has granted me and for me to help others see the importance of keeping things in order. The ability to perform any task with joy which benefits others and meets practical needs. The ability to coordinate resources in order to accomplish tasks as quickly as possible. Money doesn't grow on trees, but it is given by our Father for us to steward rightly and share with others. All that God grants us should be used to further the kingdom and edify the body. God can use this gift for me to steward what I have and be ready to fulfill a need such as helping someone get a meal to eat or helping to pay for mission work. Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14: 40 These gifts are given to each one by the Holy Spirit for the profit of all and edifying of the body.
