The frame work of the human body Cartilage! is a flexible connective tissue found in many areas in the bodies of humans and other animals Marrow Tissue that makes up your bones Compact Bone Tissue that makes up the surface of the bones Spongy Bone Makes up the interior bone Axial Skeleton Part of body that bones dont move Ligaments Connects 2 bones together just like the elbow Joints Connect the phalanges to the knuckles Appedicular Skeleton Part of body where the bones can move Arthritis When the cartilage wears away and it is hard to move your joints

Transcript: Skeletal System The skeletal system is all the bones in your body plus the tissues, such as tendons, legiments, joints, and cartilage that connects them The skeletal system is the main support of our body. Without it we would be a puddle of guts and skin on the floor. We have 2 types of skeleton: the axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton The axial skeleton is the bones that basically surrounds our spin, or axis. This includes the skull, ribs, and vertebrae Inside your bones is marrow. This creates red and white blood cells which carries oxygen and makes the ability to fight infecton There are 2 types of bone tissue: the compact bone and the spongy bone. Compact Bone is the supportive tissue of our bones. Spongy bone is the strong but lightwieght tissue of the bones. It makes up most of the short, flat, irregular bones in the body. Arthritis is a degenerative disease that you can get. This is inflammation of a joint. You can get osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthitis. Osteoarthritis is when you get older and have wear and tear on your joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy joint tissue. THE END The appendicular skeleton is the bones that are attached to the axial skeleton. These bones alow movement and they are the arms legs and shoulders.
Transcript: - Red Marrow Osteoarthritis - Bones of the body help regulate calcium levels in the blood. - Slightly Movable Joints Osteoporosis - Immovable Joints - Torn ligaments, tendons, and cartilage - Bone marrow is a tissue that contains cells that give rise to red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Bone marrow is also a storage depot for fat. Rheumatoid Arthritis Degenerative Arthritis Joint Injuries and Diseases Fractures - Can be prevented by weight bearing exercise, calcium & estrogen supplements. - Common among active people Degenerative join disease - Bones are made of bone tissue. Skeletal System - Marrow Cavities -Calcitonin - Yellow Marrow - Ligaments and Tendons Arthritis Joints are the structures that connect the bones to the skeleton By Heather Nicole Gabby Becca Dorothy Krystal The Joints - Parathyroid Gland ; releases parathormone Structure and Function of the Human Skeleton - Arthroscope - Consists of 206 bones - progressive loss of bone calcium which progressively weakens our bones. Regulating Calcium Levels - Synovial Joints
Transcript: There are three functions of the skeletal system, they include: Movement: Where bones meet they form joints, which act as levers. Where as tendons attach bones to muscle allowing a variety of movement. Support: The bones and the skeletal system give the body shape, the skeletal system supports the body in a variety of different ways. Protection: This is when the skeletal system protects the organs from damage, a good example of this is the sternum If you are trying to make your bones stronger there are many things you should do, they include: The 4 weight-bearing exercises: Tennis, Aerobics, jogging and walking. Having lots of calcium and vitamin D. And finally exercise as this will help avoid Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is when your bones become more brittle (weaker), its more likely to occur when your older. Things that are bad for your bones are: Smoking Alcohol Caffeine Sedentary life (LAZY) R.I.C.E Rest: Reduce or stop using the injured area for 48 hours. If it is a leg injury you may want to stay off it completely. Ice: Put on a ice pack on the injured area for 20 minutes at a time. Use a cold pack that has been wrapped up in a towel as this numbs the pain and reduces swelling. Compression: Wrap the injured area with bandages, as this allows blood not to escape. Elevation: Keep the injured area elevated above the heart, this also reduces blood loss. A simple fracture: means the bone is cracked but then skin is NOT broken A compound fracture: means the bone is broken and IT IS sticking out A green stick fracture: A small crack, it is very common in young children as their bones are very springy. A stress fracture: is an incomplete fracture of the bone, it could be caused by unusual repeatable stress such as running on the ground to much. Golfer or tennis elbow: you might get this if you use: a bad technique or wrong size equipment. Dislocation: when the bone is pulled out of the joint, if it is not at a joint it is not dislocated. Sprained/twisted ankle: this is when ligaments have been pulled out of their ligaments, they involve ligaments rather than muscles and tendons Skeletal System Adduction Abduction Stretching/FlexingAll major muscles/joints10 minutes1 N/A Leg ExtensionQuadriceps15270 lbs. Transcript: Skeletal System Some Parts of the skeletal System skull- protects your brain it has 23 bones and acts like a helmet for the brain spine- protects the spinal cord joints- to connect bones so they move If you didn't have bones you're flimsy, you would have no support like my stuffed toy Bob. This is what the Skeletal System looks like... Bones let you walk, talk, move, jump and protect you. So you can be you. Thank-you Presentation by: Jeremy
Transcript: The difference between compact bone and spongy is that compact bone are actually soft and spongy bone are really dense and strong. Its time to play Operation The three types of joints 1. Immovable 2.Slightly movable 3.Freely movable A joint is a place where one bone attaches to another one. There are 206 bones in the adult human. The consists supports the central axis of the body. The bones are a solid network of living cells and protein fibres that are supported by deposits of calcium salts Within bones are cavities that contain a soft tissue called bone marrow. Taylor Shell Malik Waddy Victory Harrison Darius Goodwin Information Skeletal System Break off into groups and play operation for about 15 minutes Some functions of the skeltal system are: 1. Provides support for the rest of the body 2. Gives muscles something to anchor onto 3. Protects internal organs 4. Stores calcium and phosphorus
