Another way of getting training is being a teacher's aid, peferrably a teacher who teaches the same subject you're interested in. You could also join the STEM program or Governor's School. A Bachelor's degree is the minimum to work in most school systems. People who wish to become a science teacher should get a degree in the subject they want to teach. Although some science teachers who teach at a secondary level(middle/high school) have a Bachelor's degree, taking additional classes is an option for them to recieve teacher certification. And if they wanted to teach post-secondary, they would need a Master's degree or Ph.D. Science teachers have more tasks than most teachers. And that's only because science class requires a lot of safety equipment along with many rules that students need to follow for their own safety. Science teachers are the ones who teach everything related to science. Such as biology, chemistry, physics, ecology, etc. Here's a few of those tasks/responsibilities they may have: Teaching ability and age appropriate material. Preparing hands-on activities. Giving homework, including reading and projects. Evaluate student knowledge with tests and lab activities. Stay on top of the latest technology and scientific discoveries. Help and prepare students for science fairs or competitions. Science teachers educate the future generations of marine biologists, chemical engineers, scientists, etc. They inspire young innovators and teach them to explore what's around them. If you farm you need to know how to predict the weather in order to know when to plant and grow your crops. If you are planning an outdoor event you have to know what the weather conditions for that day are so you can dress and prepare accordingly. This knowledge is important to the existence of all organisms. We have to know how things reproduce to save species from extinction. MR. We learn how to make Common solution products like: soaps, glues, paints, medicines, tea, etc… We need to know characteristics of Thunderstorms, tornadoes/ hurricanes/cyclones/ typhoons, Droughts, and acid precipitation. The better we understand these types of weather-related phenomena's the easier it will be to prevent the ones that can be prevented. We learn how the body works, how it is made up and how it can go wrong. We learn how to provide treatment that our bodies sometimes need to feel better, To understand the planet we live on. To improve our health, medicines, and environments. To understand the weather, space, plants, animals, and the human body. To improve on our technology, to create devices that make life easier. We need to know these three laws apply to every object imaginable. We need to know that it takes force to move or stop the movement of every single object. Learning about science helps us to understand what are some environmentally safe alternatives to producing energy other than the use of fossil fuel. Renewable Energy Because of the study of science. Earth Science We learn how to Predict weather conditions using data. We need to know what are the positive and negative effects of solar energy on the earth, on the different environments, and the atmosphere. We need to know if solar energy reflected from the earth’s surface causes any unsafe radiation in the atmosphere. Understanding the effects humans have on the atmosphere, may teach us how to slow down or stop global warming. We may learn how to prevent some of the dangerous weather conditions that happen on our planet. We may even learn how to protect the atmosphere that causes these storms, so that fewer dangerous storms happen. Earth Science Students need to study science so they can Identify and explain the effects that human activities have on weather and the atmosphere. ESL for Science Teachers

Transcript: Do all ELLs have the same 1st language? Are they at the same level? These students pose a unique challenge to make sure they are able to learn science while they are still learning English. As anyone who has traveled to a foreign country with a very rudimentary vocabulary and a map can tell you, it is not easy to navigate when you do not understand the native language of a country. You rely on pictures, gestures and the few words you know. I have always been lucky enough to run into people who were willing to help, occasionally even taking me by the hand to make sure I got headed in the right direction. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to learn difficult scientific concepts without a good understanding of the language. By being creative and using a number of modalities and illustrations to help the ELL student understand, you will also be helping many of the native English speakers get a better handle on the material and you will keep the classes interesting. With a little bit of patience and luck, you and your students should arrive together at your destination of scientific knowledge. Along the way, they may also improve their English skills, interpersonal skills and self image. Hopefully, at the end of the year they will say "Thank you, thank you!" and be as grateful to you as I am to all the strangers who took the time to help me the many times when I was lost. A child's background, culture, and prior education may have an impact. One child may be very fluent in verbal social interaction, but struggling with the written academic language. Another child may have better understanding of the written word, but struggles to understand oral instructions. Using a variety of input and output methods with the ELL will help assess their true understanding of the course material and help them improve their English skills in the process.
