Transcript: Alba Angulo 1 BACH A Pureza de Maria Bilbao Differences between PowerPoint, PREZI and impress COST ¿HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT? Powerpoint: pricing starts at $126.89 as a one-time payment, per user. There is not a free version of PowerPoint. PowerPoint does offer a free trial. Prezi: It is free, but you can also get the Prezi Enjoy license, which costs $59 per year with 500 MB of storage. For $159, Prezi Pro offers 2000 MB with the option to work offline. Impress: It is free. EASY OR DIFFICULT ¿Is it easy to use it? Powerpoint: More difficult, with different tools, designs and multimedia. It has a large and wide set of designs with transitions. Impress: It has a comprehensive range of easy-to-use drawing and diagramming tools to add style and sophistication to your presentation. wifi ¿do i need wifi or internet connection to use it? Powerpoint: You should be able to regularly open and use Office 2013/2016 applications like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel without internet connection. To utilize free-hand pen and drawing tools, click the “Review” tab, then click “Start Inking” Prezi: It has different pens to allow drawing. Share significance and background, but really focus on your methods and results Use your graphs and bolded words to direct your explanation of your project. Audience must know: process of your research Good to show: size, population, world significance Nice to show: unexpected effects Font: large enough to read, and highlighted words that you can refer back to. Also font color and selection is easy to read A research poster is a "summary" of your research that is presented to an audience from your discipline as well as others. AKA an advertizement of your research Posters are used as a visual aid. Example of a Deal or No Deal Template PowerPoint Game Templates There are free templates for games such as jeopardy, wheel of fortune, and cash cab that can be downloaded online. However, some templates may cost more money depending on the complexity of the game. Classroom Games that Make Test Review and Memorization Fun! (n.d.). Retrieved February 17, 2017, from Fisher, S. By hyper linking certain answers to different slides, the game jumps from slide to slide while playing the game. 4. This kind of setup is normally seen as a simple quiz show game. Example of a Wheel of Fortune Template Games can be made in order to make a fun and easy way to learn. Popular game templates include: Family Feud Millionaire Jeopardy and other quiz shows. Quick video on template "Millionaire" PowerPoint Games Some games are easier to make compared to others If users are unsure whether or not downloading certain templates is safe, you can actually make your own game by just simply using PowerPoint. add logo here References Example of a Family Feud Template PowerPoint Games are a great way to introduce new concepts and ideas You can create a fun, competitive atmosphere with the use of different templates You can change and rearrange information to correlate with the topic or idea being discussed. Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Research Posters

Transcript: Unless you are completely confident in your ability to create sophisticated and graphically complex layouts like this - KEEP IT SIMPLE!!! design & layout EXPLAIN A poster represents an easily digested format by which you can demonstrate: COMMUNICATE your How you researched it Caveat and most importantly: What did you discover from your research? Keep it concise Bullet points Short discussion (200 - 300 words as a guide) Structure & layout Here are the sources of the raw data 6 And bear in mind that a poster will also form a key part of your degree show What conclusions did you come to? What do you now understand that you didn't before you started you research? How will you use this knowledge? Good use of white space, cut-out figures, simple graphics and serpentine pathway timeline create visual interest while maintaining impressive overall clarity and text legibility. It may help to have it mounted on thin foam card but it is not a requirement. Conclusions The primary purpose of the poster is that it should tell a reader who has no prior knowledge of your work everything the reader needs to know to gain a thorough understanding of your project. In short, your poster MUST TELL YOUR STORY CLEARLY & SIMPLY certainly not everything you've researched! Remember: it's easy to create visually interesting but ultimately confusing or pointless posters What challenge you set yourself goes in the poster? What you learned from your research Technicalities Why is your project relevant Findings so What was your design outcome Portrait or landscape - it doesn't matter but do strive for a sense of balance across the entire sheet the following examples show different approaches, from the clean to the more complex Why Posters This is a contemporary infographic. It uses graphics and a pie chart structure to illustrate a stastical breakdown of the data. EXPLAIN A good poster design will combine text, graphics and images to create a rich, informative and cogent message. the way - does this polar area diagram remind you of Florence Nightingale's charts? 594 x 841 mm Body text should be no smaller than 12pt and most importantly: EXPLAIN Poster design advice ....talking of data... Combination of rigid grid and variable width box-outs. Consistent treatment of headings, but dense text over background graphics leads to a busier feel and some reduction in legibility. Research 2 Let's start with the question Project Context Clean, ordered, restrained. Emphasis on close relationship between text, simple graphic elements, icons & symbols controlled via rigid underlying grid structure and white space. A1 Organise information Clean but freer and looser adherence to underlying grid structure. Effective use of white space gives elements space to breath. Playful but not chaotic. 594 x 841 mm How your research fed into your final project EXPLAIN What A1 M144ID Thursday 17th May Hand in to GS reception by 4pm Please make sure your Name and Module Code (M144ID) is clearly printed on the FRONT with your course title On 31 August 1854, after several other outbreaks had occurred elsewhere in the city, a major outbreak of cholera struck Soho. John Snow, the physician who eventually linked the outbreak to contaminated water, later called it "the most terrible outbreak of cholera which ever occurred in the United Kingdom." By the end of the outbreak, 616 people had died. This is a copy of the original map by John Snow showing the clusters of cholera cases in the London epidemic of 1854. The following map is a modern version which simplifies and clarifies the information further... What your design outcome is! Is it a product, specification, manifesto, theory? Include drawings, concepts sketches, renderings, prototypes, polished artwork, photographs, diagrams, charts A poor poster design will combine text, graphics and images to create a confusing and incoherent message. Your overall AIM and what your key OBJECTIVES were Be clear and concise The important point here is that if you don't understand your data, then no-one else will - no matter how you present it! The infographic on the right was created by Florence Nightingale between 1854 - 1855 to demonstrate to the British Government that more soldiers were dying of preventable causes than from death or injury in battle. Nightingale was a talented mathematician and chose to present data as a picture because she knew that politicians would not generally understand the gravity of the situation by simply reading the raw numbers. As a consequence of this technique, her
