Transcript: EDUC 518 CONCEPT MAP For each unit, you will have one or more sets of sticky notes to use to complete your concept map assignment. Note that some units have TWO topics (e.g., connectivism and constructivism). Be sure to complete ALL of the stickies for that week. Use different color notes to differentiate between topics. Use lines and arrows to create branches that connect ideas to each other. Please do not rearrange the units, or it will be very difficult for your instructor to find that week's content; you may, however, ADD stickies, images, videos, arrows, lines, etc. as needed. Be sure to add any new additions to the path. Teachers are under stress to meet the core standards - they don't think both can be done. Did I say it was time consuming? and it gets noisy and its not always predictable. It can take a certain outlook to tolerat all of it. SOCIAL COGNITIVE THEORY 2/8/6 KHS To all of you: Your theory applicaiton here is correct. You each identified a strategry of behaviorism and accurately cited your source. All about: concept map BEHAVIORISM All about: 2/17/16 KHS to Mauricio: Why will small blocks be better? What about working memory makes you say that? Your idea is right on the money, but now you must justify your choice. Why use small blocks of information? What does Snowman say about how much the brain can process at one time? 2/8/16 KHS You were on a roll! So many interesting ideas to question. KHS: Work harder on developing questions. More than one! 2/26 khs to Airi- right! What does Snowman call it? use that as your term, then cite it 2/12 KHS to Group, The idea of active learning was overlooked by each of you - take a look at your video's and think of how to provide opportunities for experimentation in your lessons. copy and paste as needed and take advantage of an infinite canvas! 2/12 A skeptic! No. He has not being proven wrong. His theory is remarkably enduring. Especially in developed and literate cultures. As rigid as it appears, it parallels the natural physical development of the brain. Look up his experiements and try them out on children you know - or watch the many youtube videos on the subject. It is the exceptional child that beats his stages and then, only in one area of development. Those children are considered 'gifted' - Gifted children may develop asynchronously: their minds are often ahead of their physical growth, and specific cognitive and social-emotional functions can develop unevenly. CONNECTIVISM 2/12 KHS I see uneven development across ages of children - and in the individual, development can vary in different areas of cognition and emotion. Example, a student may be 8.9 yrs old in math, but in reading only at 6.4 yrs. All about: KHS: great start! Do you still think these LO's work? SOCIOCULTURAL THEORY 2/17/16 KHS to Airianna, you are headed in the right direction, what in the snoman reading directs you to say this? why would the student demonstrating the lesson move the knowledge to her LTM? What are the factors that influence if information gets put into LTM? Keep thinking! INFORMATION PROCESSING THEORY CONSTRUCTIVISM 2/17/16 KHS to Matt, practice has a place! Now that you have identified a strategy, repetition, now look back to the book and provide the rationale or the justification for your choice. What does Snowman say about using repetition to move information from working memory to LTM? You must cite your ideas! MOTIVATION & SELF REGULATION All about: Summative assessment to measure factual knowledge. (Anderson & Krothwohl, 2001, Chapter 3, p.27). All about: COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENTAL THEORY 2/26 KHS to Mauricio, you can keep it even more broad, has he ever made anything for himself to eat? Would he like to learn? or has he ever watched you or someone make food? what does he know about making food? All about: COMPLEX COGNITIVE PROCESSES ASSESSMENT 2/12 KHS to Group I encourage you each to look at what is equilibrium and how you can use what your student knows but then add something to knock them off balance, to question where the new information goes... pushing them to assimilate or accommodate the new information. It may be a using Almond butter, or maybe, introcing a new yoga pose, but maintaining breathing or mindfullness. Think of it as something Same but Different. KHS: Great point, your question makes the assumption that analysis is essential to meaning construction. This is a very cognitive perspective - one you will read more about soon. For now, I'll ask another question, Can there be understanding from experience? ELEMENTS All about: All about: 2/17/16 KHS to Michelle: What does it do to limit the lesson? How will that improve the lesson? (You are totally right, but now you need to justify your idea!). Look back to Snowman, what does Snowman say about how much a brain can process? Michelle Henry, Mauricio Michel, Matt Mason, Airiana Holloway KHS: Super good questions. Look for

Now you can make any subject more engaging and memorable
