Transcript: Flat design is a more simplistic, digital sense of design. I think this design will be popular for a long time because it is so universal and simple that the images can be recognized easily worldwide. However, the lack of drop shadows has been something criticized by designers and may make it more difficult for users to click on digital buttons. I believe that the simplicity and minimalistic aspect of this design will make it adaptable for future uses. FLAT Design originated in the 1950s and 1960s. The first digital appearance of the design was in 2006 in the Microsoft Zune mp3 player. What is Flat Design? Color Palette Microsoft was the first to use this style of design. It clashed with Apple's iOS Skeuomorphic design. It came from this design that Apple made popular and attempted to oppose all of these 'artificial' design techniques. It is inspired by International Typographic Style (Swiss Style), Modernism, and styles emerging from Bauhaus. A minimalistic design approach that emphasizes usability. It represents crisp edges, open space, and bright colors. There are only two-dimensional and flat design identifies applications as simple, icon-like images. There is a clear separation between technology and tactile objects. Flat Design is not ornamental; it is very minimalistic. The bright colors make it so the design is not boring and still grab the viewer's attention. The simple, vibrant images make it so everyone can easily understand them and indicate universal actions. Conclusion Flat Design owes a lot of inspiration from Swiss design. However, Flat design is much more based on digital platforms. It is dominated by sans-serif typography and flat images that reside on internet and digital based environments. Swiss design was not entirely flat, it had depth and perspective to its design. This created the very grid-like pattern that the style takes on. Google is also a well-known user of this style Windows 8 is the forefront of the Flat design trend. What makes Flat Design unique? Transcript: Innovation as part of your business strategy, a strategic vision of how you want your business to develop - if you dedicate your time to monitoring trends in your business sector, you can then focus your innovative efforts on the most important areas. Every process should increase organizational value by supporting the business vision and supporting strategies. To do otherwise would lower the utility of a change effort and would place it at risk because it probably would not gain the necessary organizational support to make it successful. When an idea has been identified, the organization needs to support the idea with resources, a budget, and attention. Often an employee trying to implement a new idea must work on both the new idea and her current job. Goals need to be quantified. Will the new program increase revenue or improve productivity and reduce expenses? Calculating this provides a way to judge the success or failure of a program. Innovative organizations must support the idea throughout, which includes providing backing from management, investment in equipment and technology, staff training, and marketing support. Innovation and Change To be successful in business, we should innovate something and change for something new. Pooling your resources with your suppliers or other business partners will help to produce and develop creative ideas. Potential partnerships can also be developed through business networking opportunities. Rewarding Failure Discover breakthrough solutions to satisfy your clients. Sources: The purpose of reviewing and evaluating change Sadly, not every innovation will succeed. There are many variables involved with any innovative idea and perils both known and unknown may prevent success. Once a project is underway, it is not uncommon to discover that accomplishing the goals cost more than expected, causing the project to be cancelled. Even failed initiatives result in new knowledge, lessons learned, and limitations understood. It is also common for individual aspects of an idea to become successful on their own. Companies need to accept that although many ideas fail they still need to reward the hard-working team that implemented the idea. The purpose of reviewing and evaluating change is to make sure that the changes that have been put into place are benefiting the business and that no other changes need to be made. If changes are not evaluated and reviewed then it may affect the business and if they are reviewed and evaluated then everyone knows exactly how the changes are affecting the business and if any other changes need to be made. Give the four principles of change!!! an act or process through which something becomes different make or become different give up or get rid of (something) in exchange for something else Change is always better! Change Include your vision in your business plan Developing a Playbook Stag an organization with people that can successfully support and execute the business processes. Measure process and product quality Communication involves not only listening to their needs but also actively observing their behavior around current products and services and generating ideas on how you can make improvements. An organization needs to constantly innovate to succeed. Innovation is about making things better, faster, or cheaper than your competition. It drives ongoing improvements and may help unleash a new idea that changes the rules.Companies need to approach innovation and change effectively and proactively. Introducing innovation can help you to: PLANNING INNOVATION Plan change efforts to maximize retudn on investment and minimize risk. The measurement of process and product quality permits an organization to determine its rate of change, which it can use to evaluate the success of a change effort. It also permits an organization to compare the rate of actual change against its planned change, and to allocate resources based on the gaps between actual and expected progress. Rewarding Innovation and Change Build a relationship with your customers. The four key principles underlying organizational change best practices. A company needs to provide staff with an incentive to innovate. With no reward, there is no good reason for employees to suggest or try new ideas. The first step in creating an innovative organization is to include change in an employee's goals, performance management process, and compensation plan. This needs to be implemented throughout the organization. Even mail-room staff and couriers can offer a perspective and make suggestions that a vice president would easily miss. Innovation Innovation and Change INNOVATION Businesses that fail to innovate run

Transcript: BIOS ? Information is the buildings blocks of the “who,” “what,” “where,” “why,” “when,” and “how” decisions that are made on a day-to-day basis. If the information cannot be obtained when needed, or relied on to be accurate, then those decisions can be inaccurate or damaging to an individual or the institution. If sensitive information is not protected appropriately then individuals without authority to make decisions can dictate them. For example: a social security number, name, and address are compromised and obtained by a hacker who then maliciously uses those to commit identify theft negatively affecting an individual’s financial situation. Transcript: Characteristics of Flat Design Flat Design This web-design style became popular around 2012. It is still widely used today. However, the excessive use of this style can cause serious usability problems. One of the biggest usability issues introduced by flat design is the lack of signifiers on clickable elements. Sources: Since flat design is simple by nature, avoid trying to make its elements look realistic. It works well with an overall minimalist design approachso simple color and text may be enough. If you want to add visuals, opt for simple photography. Simple Elements The biggest player in Flat Design, and the first one to popularize this trend is Microsoft. Flat design makes things free from distractions, eliminating heavy background images, swirls, and grunge that makes everything cluttered. It’s very easy to navigate, since there are no more gradients, drop shadows, glows and bevels. It puts more focus on the text, making everything readable from big screens down to mobile. Another thing about flat design is its simple mobile interface. The buttons are easy to tap on mobile devices and there is no need for zooming to find links. Found Them First Color is also an important aspect of flat design. In fact, flat design color palettes are often much brighter and more colorful than those for other sites. Color palettes for flat design projects often contain many more hues as well. While most color palettes focus on two or three colors at most, flat design palettes may use six to eight colors equally. Flat design does not use any type of decoration and effects such as bevels, emboss, gradients, or shadows. Every element such as button and image frame is crisp and lacks shadows and there are not tricks that will make it appear 3D. Minimalist Approach PROS OF USING FLAT DESIGN As we've said earlier, the excessive use of this style can cause serious usability problems and one of the biggest usability issues introduced by flat design is the lack of signifiers on clickable elements. If you are also the type of person who wants a lot of decoration, then flat design is not appropriate for you because it will limit the tricks that you want to use. Focus on Color WHAT ARE THE CONS? No design outline is perfect. It has pros but it will always have its cons. Whether it will be useful or not for the user depends on how the web developer will choose a design that is appropriate on what he/she wants to convey through his/her content. In short, the level of the design's usefulness and practicality differs and the design can be chosen based on particular requirements. Flat design(Flat UI) is a style of interface design without any stylistic elements that give the illusion of three dimensions (such as excessive use of drop shadows, gradients or textures). Instead, it is focused on a minimalist use of simple elements, typography and flat colors. Here are some websites that use flat design Focus on Typography Flat Design Community Building Websites Typography is a very important aspect because of the simple nature of flat design. The tone of the typography should match the overall design scheme because a highly decorated font might look unconventional against a super-simple design. A simple sans serif type family with plenty of variations and weights is one of the suitable fonts in flat design. You can add a touch of a novelty font but be careful not to go overboard with your decoration. Writer/Author's Website Flat design has simple user interface elements. The buttons and icons are simple shapes and they are easy to click or tap. Because the user interface elements doesn't have a lot of in-design explanation, the interaction is intuitive for the users.
