You will see some good items to buy during the presentation, as well as to why ergonomic hardware is helpful. 1.) Cervical radiculopathy: disk compression in the neck from keeping your neck in the same position for a long period of time Ergonomics is the study of how the physical health of a worker is affected by their workplace. Ergonomic Chair Ergonomic Mouse Choose a chair with good back support 3.) Musculoskeletal is when a worker does thet same task over and over again causing stress on nerves, muscles and tendons. Before long, the worker will start to have pain in the palm and the finger tips of the hand. If your workplace does not have ergonomic hardware, you and your workers will get injuried in some way. Ergonomic items are more valuable and helpful to many people. Ergonomic Hardware is the way to go! What is Ergonomics? 4.)Chronic Back Pain happens when you sit in a bad position for a long period of time. This can be solved by doing back streches and getting a good ergonomic chair. Make sure the top of the computer screen is at eye level

Transcript: Eye Strain Definition It is odd that office work can result in the same injuries as construction. Shoulder and Back Pain is such an oddity. After 20 minutes of sitting down, and the body will start to realize its position is uncomfortable and wish to adjust There are many causes for shoulder pain. Bad posture is the obvious one. Another one is the furniture. If the chair and table do now fit together, (i.e. one is short and the other is tall) then an awkard position will begin to result in pain. In such a non-vigorous environment, avoiding shoulder and back pain should be simple. However, people just simply forget about their bodies when working. By not neglecting your body during your work, and taking the time to relax your shoulders or stand up and walk around, the rigid position will not cause nearly as much harm. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a very severe injury that happens to a nerve running to the hand through a part of the wrist, called the carpal tunnel. The nerve can be injured by being squeezed by tendons surrounding it. The causes of CTS are so far mostly a mystery to scientists. Great debate still exists around whether office work (clicking, typing, etc) can be the root of the problem or something that simply brings on the inevitable. Despite the controversy surrounding the topic, it is well-accepted that the severity of the CTS can be diminished with proper hand positions when using keyboards and mice. Eye strain happens to people who need to concentrate very hard on screens or books for extended amounts of time. Headaches and blurred vision are common symptoms of eye strain The concentration required for these tasks tightens the ciliary muscles in the eyes. The ciliary muscles are in charge of adjusting the eyes to view things at different distances. The long time spent looking at screens at the same distance makes it tighten up and cause eye strain. Eye strain can be reduced by placing the monitor at eye height and the brightness settings schould be high (so the white contrasts with the black words) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Ergonomics By Tim Wu Ergonomics is a big word to explain a simple concept: making yourself comfortable in your workspace. Two ways to achieve this are to adjust your workspace or adjust your body. Shoulder Pain

Transcript: Ergonomics What is ergonomics ? prevents of back pain and neck pain at the workplace Prevent bursitis or tendon problems that are linked to doing the same task over and over (repetitive tasks). And most importantly.... Be less likely to have problems such as headaches or eyestrain...remove stress Making a easier work conditions! Rules to ergononomics! 1. Adjust your computer so that you are at an arms length from the screen. Adjust your monitor below or at your eye level so that you can avoid eye fatigue 2. The table should be an adjustable one so that you can easily adjust the monitor and keyboard height. To raise the monitor, it is best to place it on top of the hard drive 3.Fix a document holder to your computer screen. This greatly minimizes your eye and neck strain 4.Choose an adjustable chair so that you can rotate and easily move across the floor 5.Place proper lighting environment so that you can minimize the glare in your work area. Don’t place overhead lights instead it is better to place task lights. 6.Attach an anti glare filter to the monitor so that you can reduce strain on your eyes 7.Keep your work area clean and remove any objects on the floor that restrict you to move freely or make you bump into the things, also don’t keep any books, papers or supplies that you don’t regularly use. Place them in drawers or other place that won’t disturb your work area. less stressfull easier to work in gives a relaxing enviroment The End(: study of workplace design: the study of how a workplace and the equipment used there can best be designed for comfort, efficiency, safety, and productivity conclusion WHAT DOES ERGONOMICS DO?
