Transcript: Depression Depression is an illness which is common but often misunderstood. It can occur without people realizing that they even have it. Many people ignore the signs of depression, and some cope with it by abusing alcohol and/or drugs. It is not a personal weakness; it is an illness that can be for the most part successfully treated, unless the depression gets worse resulting in suicide. Depression can come once or twice in your lifetime some times the time period last longer than others. Depression involves all areas of your life: your life situation; your thoughts, emotions and physical state; and your actions. It may affect social support, family relationships, employment, and finances. Each of these areas is connected to all the others. There is all diffrent types of depression, Some signs of depression are: Loss of energy Self-loathing Reckless behavior Concentration problems Unexplained aches and pains Other reasons for Depression are: Remember there is a treatment for this illness. Sometimes talking to people other than your family is healthy. Therapy is one of the most helpful ways to over coming your depression. Also anti-depressants can make things feel better for you if therapy cant. All anti-depressants are diffrent, depends on how the person reacts to it. What is Depression? Diffrent types of anti-depressants are : 1.Celexa (citalopram) 2.Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) 3.Luvox (fluvoxamine) 4.Paxil (paroxetine) 5.Prozac (fluoxetine) 6.Zoloft (sertraline) Causes Sometimes, instead of sadness, a depressed person will experience a general sense of emotional numbness, an inability to feel anything. Others become short-tempered when they are depressed. They may be more irritable, snapping at coworkers or clients, which may lead to new stresses and conflicts. Signs and symptons to Depression Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. Loss of interest in daily activities Appetite or weight changes Sleep changes Anger or irritability Treatment Major depression, is the most common. Walks around with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Atypical Depression, sometimes able to experience happiness Dysthymia, Many people just walk around seeming depressed and have been their whole life and are not aware of it. Manic Depression, can be defined as an emotional disorder characterized by changing mood shifts from depression to mania which can sometimes be quite rapid. Stress at work to a death of a loved one can all cause depression, In our head we think, and the more we think the more we create a problem in our heads that wasnt even there to begin with. When you feel you are becoming not yourself, not enjoying the things you used too, or snapping at your loved ones when you wouldnt before, and sometimes everything all adds up and you just cant handle it anymore. Depression can vary from person to person, but there will always be common symptoms. It’s important to remember that these symptoms can be part of life’s normal lows. But the more symptoms you have, the stronger they are, and the longer they’ve lasted—the more likely it is that you’re dealing with depression.

In 2012 military suicide hit a new high with one member committing suicide every 25 hours. For a total of 349 suicides last year. These suicides were spread across all branches of the military. Including the Army, and the Navy. Depression has many different branches which include: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Clinical Depression, Unipolar Depression, and Recurring Depression. If YOU or SOMEONE you know is contemplating suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. If you or someone you know is depressed please tell someone you trust so that you may get the proper help you need. DEPRESSION DEPRESSION A depressive disorder is a syndrome that reflects a saddened or blue mood exceeding normal sadness and grief. These are the symptoms of depression approved by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): Difficulty concentrating, difficulty remembering details, and making decisions. Fatigue and decreased energy. Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness. Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping. Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable. Overeating or appetite loss. Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment. DEPRESSION 1 out 10 people will have depression in their lifetime. Out of those ten one of the them is likely to commit suicide from depression. DEPRESSION Depression is categorized by negative thoughts, moods, behaviors, and specific changes in body functions. (Eating, Sleeping, and sexual activity.) The most common age period to get depressed is in your 20's and 30's. There have been peaks of depression in people between their 40's and 50's. This can happen because of changes in peoples lifetime. Such as having children, loss of loved one, gaining of weight, accidents, and aging. DEPRESSION In the United States 3.4% of people who commit suicide do so because of depression. 60% of all people that commit suicide in the united states have had depression before. Depression is NOT a weakness. It is a illness that can be treated with medicine and therapy. In some EXTREME cases shock therapy may be an option. Anybody can get depression. This includes celebrities such as Albert Einstein.
