Transcript: Free Read PowerPoint Project Judith Rumelt, better known by her pen name Cassandra Clare, is an American author of young adult fiction. Main Characters Summary Prominent literary item Will Herondale-Will has dark hair and ocean blue eyes. Will is rude and cruel because he believes everyone that loves him will die. He believes this because a demon put a 'curse' on him. Tessa Gray- Tessa has blonde hair and grey eyes. She is very witty and enjoys literature. Recommendation of book Setting Jem Carstairs-Jem has silver hair and eyes, due to the drug he was tortured with before his family was killed. He plays the violin and is very kind, caring, and lovable. The most unique thing in Clockwork Angel is that there are supernatural occurrences such as demons, shape shifters, witches, vampires, and werewolves, etc. I definitely recommend Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. I recommend this book because it uses great figurative language, such as "The machine walked like a man." Also, "There was a boy standing in front of her. He couldn´t have been much older than she was-seventeen or possibly eighteen. He was dressed in what looked like workman´s clothes-a frayed black jacket, trousers, and tough-looking boots. He wore no waistcoat, and thick leather straps crisscrossed his waist and chest. Attached to the straps were weapons-daggers and folding knives and things that looked like blades of ice. In His left hand-slim and long fingered-was bleeding where she had gashed the back of it with her pitcher. But that wasn´t what made her stare. He had the most beautiful face she had ever seen. Tangled black hair and eyes like blue glass. Elegant cheekbones, and long, thick lashes. He looked like every fictional hero she´d ever conjured up in her head. Tessa Gray goes to London to live with her brother. When she arrives Tessa is captured by twin sisters dubbed 'the Dark Sisters'. She was tortured and forced to use her gift of shape shifting for evil until Will Herondale rescues her. He then takes her to the institute, a place for shadowhunters to be cared for. Tessa meets the residents of the institute, Charlotte Branwell, the head of the institute, Henry Branwell, Charlotte's husband and inventor of a many great inventions, Jessamine Lovelace, girly and against all things shadowhunter, Jem Carstairs, a kind but very ill shadowhunter. Presentation Themes Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare Most unique thing in the book Presentation by Canaan Hall Clockwork Angel takes place in the institute, and the Dark Sister's home. The institute is an old church with very many rooms for passing visitors. The Dark Sister's house is large but sparsly furnished, in Tessa's room there is a bed with restraints, a mirror, and a nightstand with a few books. The themes for Clockwork angel are; you always need friends that you can trust, don't judge someone by their looks you don't know what they are going through, and even someone you wouldn't expect could be the hero. Cassandra Clare One prominent literary item in the book is personification. Personification is used throughout Clockwork Angel, such as "The machine walked like a man." Another example is, "The door creaked with a noise that sounded like a scream."

The presence of rGO in ZnS-rGO composite gives significant improvement in the degradation of methylene blue under visible light irradiation compared to pure ZnS, due to the increased adsorption of the dye, decrease in the band gap and stepwise structure of the energy levels in the composite. The presence of graphene and PPy in the GZP turnary composite lead to higher photocurrent response due to the creation of an interfacial separation between the graphene and the PPy by ZnS nanoparticles, which act as a bridge, and due to enhanced charge transport by graphene. Transcript: -Unknown Title- by Stiglich (2013) According to CNN, in 2013 Republicans and Democrats couldn't agree on a spending plan for the fiscal year and, therefore, leaving federal coffers short. However, this shutdown only lasted a couple of day. There are no actions captured in the cartoon. “Well, the shutdown is finally over. Now we can get back to doing what we do best…what is it that we do again?”- The artist, tries to portray the government as a circus. They don’t know what they are doing and therefore they don’t do anything at all. These words might cause rage among the US citizens since their trust rests with those in power. -The cartoon portrays a government that does not work for the people. A government that doesn’t even knows how to work and, therefore, neglects its duties and responsibilities. This would explain the shutdown in the first place. Iraq and Afghanistan War by Matt Wuerker (2010) The United States military is sent to "help" Iraq with a hammer instead of a screw driver. This symbolizes that the U.S. is trying to fix an issue with the wrong solutions. -"You're welcome!!" the U.S. says after they try to "help" Iraq, as another helicopter says "Look! More nails!" symbolizing that the United States military has seen another "problem" that they can fix with the "hammer" and the jets (symbolizing fast actions, and taking flight to go after the problem) carry it to the next situation. -The helicopters are ways to scout and to see the situation to make sure that is is completed, The "Hammer" symbolizes how the United States "fixes" the problems in other territories, The screws symbolize the problems in the country, and what type of help they need. -The United States is trying to fix the wrong problems with the wrong solutions, pounding the "problem" (in this case, the screws) into the ground, only worsening the issues. Government vs Businesses by Lisa Benson (2010) According to James Sherk, “More government spending, as many in Congress propose, will not reduce unemployment because government spending does not encourage businesses to invest and hire.” In 2010 unemployment reaches its peak (9.1%). “Create jobs.” “Play Dead.”- The government is clearly imposing a huge responsibility on big businesses. In the other hand, the businesses see that these will not be beneficial to their goals and decide to ignore and/or act as if nothing was going on. -Bear- Represents the government as the power holder. However, it illustrates is as an animal that is not using its whole abilities to enforce the demand. It not being illustrated as a person also shows that the government lacks the ability to communicate effectively and, therefore, to take good actions. -Suitcase and Business man- Represents the businesses that the government is trying to put under its power in order to satisfy a demand. Dithering Heights by William Warren (2009) “The Taliban is resurgent in Afghanistan, and al Qaeda supports insurgency and threatens America from its safe haven along the Pakistani border.” (Barbara Starr) There is an urgent need to stabilize the attention, direction, and resources. President Obama sits on top of a mountain of petals while playing games of chance with a flower. He is surrounded by military helicopters, cars, soldiers, and explosions. “I will send troops, I will send troops NOT…” Obama is playing games of chance while in Afghanistan there is an imminent war and danger. -Obama’s smile, flowers, petals- (games being played, delicate situation being taunted with) -Helicopters, soldiers, explosions- (express the need for resources and urgent attention) The artist tries to communicate that while Afghanistan is facing the Taliban alone, Obama is not giving the situation the urgent and immediate attention it deserves and there might be and imminent war approaching. -Obama Care by Lisa Benson (2003) A donkey and an elephant in a suit are pushing a giant pill back and forth over a thin man- This action demonstrate how overwhelmed the citizens of the US are when they face the new Obama Care and the pressure that the “animals” in the government place on them when they can’t make a firm decision about the plan. -“Roll it OUT!!....Roll it BACK!!”- This constant back and forth of change of minds is evident in the way the words “out” and “back” are emphasized. This means that some in the government want the plan to go out to the public and some might want to keep modifying it. -“Obama Care”- The captions simply indicate what the giant pill symbolizes. -Animals in suits- They represent a dumb government, they think only for themselves and are inconsiderate of how their actions affect others around. -Giant Pill- Represents the irony that the cure to obtain medical help in an easier manner is inflicting more stress in the citizens than it is giving relief. -Thin man- The man is being crushed by the decisions of the government. He represents a population that is being extremely affected by the situation and can’t move on until
