Cardinal Academy Presentation

Transcript: Cardinal Academy presentation 2014-2015 Since I was a young girl, it has been my dream to pursue a career in veterinarian medicine. As part of my Academy experience, I explored my career goal by completing a course on animal systems. The online class allowed me to navigate the assignments at my own pace and choose which units were best-fitted to my track. Being a member of the Cardinal Academy has not only allowed me to further my educational studies, but has also provided the opportunity for me to explore my extracurricular interests. The majority of my time in the Cardinal Academy was spent getting ahead in my classwork. My challenging schedule demanded more time than my busy life had to offer, therefore, I completed much of my homework during the school day. If I finished the required assignments for a class before the bell rang, I would go to the academy to work on other courses. This allowed me to pursue other endeavors after school. In the Cardinal Academy Prior to becoming a member of the Cardinal Academy, I never felt obliged to pursue a career outside the field of veterinary medicine. However, I was encouraged to step outside of my comfort zone, and explore different occupations. Because I still want to practice medicine, I chose to explore the field of internal medicine by shadowing my father. The experience made me realize there are other professions within the field of medicine that I would enjoy other than those pertaining to animals. Through the Cardinal Academy, I learned that I should not limit my college and career choices, but rather consider options outside my realm of normal. The flexible, personalized schedules taught me time management skills and responsibility. Overall, being a member of the Academy has enriched my educational experience and prepared me for the challenges that lie ahead. Other Opportunities Fulfilling a College/ Career Goal When I would shadow my father, I would observe him checking up on his patients, completing paperwork, and admitting people to the hospital. Learning Experience Another helpful aspect of the Cardinal Academy is that mentors are provided. At the beginning of the year, anywhere from ten to fifteen academy students were assigned to a mentor; their purpose was to assist in difficult classwork and guide their pupils through their academic journey.
