Transcript: Other Unique Adaptations Unique Adaptations Some animals have really unique adaptations that most animals do not have. The short horned lizard has the ability to squirt blood out of its eye. Soldier ants can explode when their homes are attacked. Giraffes have long necks to eat leaves on top of treetops. Animals with camouflage blend in to their surroundings. Many birds change colors when the seasons change. Some species of nudibranch change color when they eat different colored coral. Camouflage Many animals specialize in the art of mimicry. The mimic octopus can imitate a lionfish and a sea snake. The hognose snake mimics the venomous rattlesnake that way other animals don't try to eat it. It is a harmless snake. Other animals that mimic include the lyrebird, leaf-mimic mantis, and flounder. Animal Adaptations Some other animals with unique adaptations include polar bears, musk oxen, giraffes, and lions. Lions live in prides so that they can work together to hunt and protect. Polar bears can swim underwater with their nostrils closed for hours. The musk ox has two coats of fur and powerful hooves to break the ice to get water. Mimicry

My Definition: When an animal or plant uses it's colours and textures to blend into it's surroundings.
