Transcript: Andrew Whiteman Description Throughout my year in stats, I’ve learned a lot about how to do more than just calculate simple math equations. I’ve found that statistics can help me estimate future occurrences through curves and tests. Statistics helps me in daily life by guiding me toward the most probable occurrence in any situation. All that I need to do in order to find an answer to something is by turning to statistics. Our Data Research Summary We started with 5 basic questions: 1. Do you own an iPhone? 2. Do you prefer Apple over any other phone? 3. How many times a day do you use your phone? 4. Estimate the average battery life of an iPhone. 5. If you could choose between the following phones, which would you choose? Apple, Windows, Blackberry, Android According to the internet, we found: 1. 25% of Americans own an iPhone. 2. The iPhone may have the best overall user experience, the highest quality apps and games, the widest range of services, the biggest selection of accessories, and the best customer support, but there are also things the iPhone doesn't offer that other phones do, like much larger screens, physical keyboards, high power cameras, greater hardware options, or simply no Apple about them. 3. The average user actually checks their phone around 110 times a day. 4. For practical use, Engadget found the battery of a new iPhone to last for almost 40 hours while under frequent use of a variety of features. 5. Being in statistics has helped me analyze life through the eyes of math. I now know how to prove or disprove a statistic, or how to look like a geek to my peers. Not just doing a problem, but making a problem, better helped me to understand how the statistics work into everyday life. Being able to relate to the problem better helped to make the connection. Thank you, Mr. Hemphill for this assignment! How did you know it's how I wanted to spend my time? Throughout my whole year in stats, pretty much all we did was do problems that others like me did not understand what was going on at all. By doing this project it has taught me to understand on not only knowing how to answer a problem similar to this one but to make our own as well. Doing our project on iPhones made it easier for us to do this project since it's something that we knew very well. Thank you Mr.Hemphill for teaching and giving us this project to understand statistics better. http://arstechnica.com/business/2013/06/56-percent-of-americans-now-own-smartphones-pew-study-finds/ http://www.imore.com/iphone-vs-android-vs-blackberry-vs-windows-phone-which-phone-should-you-get http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2449632/How-check-phone-The-average-person-does-110-times-DAY-6-seconds-evening.html http://science.opposingviews.com/average-battery-life-iphone-12848.html http://www.idownloadblog.com/2013/09/09/1-out-of-each-4-us-smartphones-users-has-an-iphone/ THE END Francisco Acosta Conclusion Andrew Peterson, Andrew Whiteman, Francisco Acosta Below, You can see the distribution of phones, based on our given choices. In our data, we found this: 1. Do you own an iPhone? Yes=30 No=20 2. Do you prefer Apple over any other phone? Yes=28 No=22 3. How many times a day do you use your phone? 2 or less=10 3-4=10 5-6=15 7+=15 4. Estimate the average battery life of an iPhone. 5 or less=5 6-7=10 8-9=10 10+=25 5. If you could choose between the following phones, which would you choose? Apple=25 Windows=3 Blackberry=1 Android=21 Andrew Peterson We decided to do our research on the distribution of types of smartphones that people own. We thought it was an interesting topic because we wanted to see what phone types our peers preferred. We wanted to find how the data we collected on the internet differed from that of our peers. Conclusion Ring Ring Works Cited Conclusion Above, you can see the phone preferences, based on our data,of apple compared to any other phone. 2014
