Transcript: HISTORY OF COMPUTER Prepared by: AHMAD FAIRUS IZWAN BIN ABDULLAH (01DNS17F1089) ABDUL MATEEN BIN ABDUL SAMAD (01DNS17F1068) First Generation FIRST GENERATION COMPUTERS 1945-1955 The first generation computers used vacuum tubes as the basic components because vacuum tubes are the only electronic components available on those days. Vacuum tubes are used for circuitry and magnetic drums are used for memory. Advantages 1.These are the fastest calculating computers at that time. 2.They perform operations in milliseconds. Disadvantages 1.These computers are large in size. 2.Large amount of heat is emitted. 3.The cost is high. 4.These computers are non-portable. 5.The first generation computers solve only one problem at a time. 6.Air conditioning is required 7.Machine language is difficult to learn. Second Generation Second Generation Computer 1955-1965 Second generation computers used magnetic tapes, magnetic disks for secondary memory and magnetic core for primary memory. The input to second generation computers was given through punch cards and the output displayed as printouts. The instructions for computer were written in assembly language. Advantages 1.Perform operations in microsecond. 2.The size of second generation computers is small compared to the size of first generation computers. 3.The cost is low. 4.Maintenance cost of second generation computers is low because hardware failures are rare. 5.Writing instructions in assembly language is easier than writing instructions in machine language. 6.Second generation computers generate less heat compared to the first generation computers. Disadvantages 1.Air conditioning is required. Third Generation THIRD GENERATION COMPUTERS 1965-1975 In third generation computers input is given through keyboard and output is displayed on monitor. The keyboard and monitor were interfaced through the operating system. Operating system allows different applications to run at the same time. The instructions to the computer were written in high level language instead of machine language and assembly language. Advantages 1.The size of third generation computers is less compared to the size of previous first 2.and second generation computers. 3.Generates less heat than the previous generation computers. 4.It can perform calculations in nanoseconds. 5.Maintenance cost is low compared to the previous generation computers. 6.Consumes less power than the first and second generation computers. 7.More reliable. 8.Totally general purpose. 9.Low cost. 10.Good storage. Disadvantages 1.Air conditioning was required. Fourth Generation FOURTH GENERATION COMPUTERS 1975-1989 The fourth generation computers used LSI (Large Scale Integration) and VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) technology. Using LSI and VLSI technology thousands of transistors are integrated on a small silicon chip. In fourth generation computers the semiconductor memory is replaced by magnetic core memory resulting in fast random access to memory. Advantages 1.Perform calculations in Picoseconds. 2.Consumes less power than the previous generation computers. 3.No air conditioning is required. 4.Totally general purpose. 5.Cost is low compared to the previous generation computers. 6.All types of high level languages is used for fourth generation computers. 7.Maintenance cost is low compared to the previous generation computers. 8.Fourth generation computers are portable. 9.Generates less heat than the previous generation computers. 10.Learning high level language is easier than assembly and machine language. Disadvantages 1.Latest technology was required for manufacturing of microprocessors. Fifth Generation FIFTH GENERATION COMPUTERS 1989-PRESENT These computers use parallel processing where instructions are executed in parallel manner. Parallel processing is much faster than serial processing. In serial processing each task is performed in serial manner. Where as in parallel processing multiple tasks are performed simultaneously. Fifth generation computers are based on artificial intelligence. The fifth generation computers are also called artificial intelligence computers. THANK YOU

Transcript: Morgan Valentine Computer Gamer My first ever computer I got when I was about 8 it was a pc The first game i ever played was Age of empires Age of empires was a game I played for a long time when I wasn't really into computers that much I would sometimes go over to my Nephew's house and play The legend of zelda: Ocarina of time for hours on end from ages 7-10 When I was 10 I got a Game cube I played tons of different games on it Most commonly Super Mario Sunshine and The legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Those were probly my favorites When i was about 12 i got a Xbox 360 and started playing online multiplayer I played Halo for a long time Then i got into Call of duty when MW2 came out I also got hooked on Nazi Zombies when Blackops came out Till I finnaly stoped playing for a while after MW3 came out cause i always seem to have a horrible connection A little before i got my Xbox 360 me and my dad built our own computer When i first got my Computer I started playing Runescape and random Flash games I still hadn't found any game i really liked My current Computer has I got into World of Warcraft a little bit before Wrath of the Lich king came out and played it on and off till about 2 months after Cataclysm came out When I quit WoW I started playing Runescape again Runescape is just so adicting... I don't think anyone whos bin a member for more then 3 months is capable of quiting. Sure you can take a break but you always end up playing it again Recently about christmas last year i got into the Dota 2 Beta I fell in love with the game and play it everyday Curently i have over 1000 hours of time played I am in the "High skill" Bracket witch really dosen't mean much seeing as how the matchmaking system is currently pretty bad I've bin hoping they would update the MM system but it still hasn't happened For the past week and a half i have not bin able to play Dota 2 due to my Nvidia Geforce 9600 GSO Graphics card breaking on me so i have bin mostly playing runescape still My new EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB GDDR5 was suposed to be in my posesion this weekend but has bin delayed till probly sometime this week sadly. Another game i forgot to mention i play is Minecraft i usually only play it when i'm really bored though and have tons of mods installed I have thought about learning to make my own mods but have never really got around to doing so mostly due to Dota2 being so much fun I still have basically the same computer today with slight updgrades A AMD athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz 2 GB of DDR2 ram A Nvidia GeForce 6150 graphics card A 1.5TB hard drive Running Windows XP for the OS
