Transcript: 1900 In the 1960's the first totally synthetic ball was created. But leather balls were still frequently used. Synthetics help with structure and less water absorption. 200 BC In 1862, H.J. Lindon created one of the first inflatable rubber bladders for the ball. His wife died of lung cancer and it was said that it was from blowing up hundreds of pig bladders. His reason for using bladders was because it kept the ball hard and oval shaped. Back then people preferred round balls because they were easier to kick, oval shaped balls were easy to hold. In 1872, there was new rules for the soccer ball. The ball had to be spherical with a circumference of 27-28 inches. The Fifth Soccer Ball The Chinese were the first to start playing tsu chu (soccer) in 255 BC.
