Description A technical description About the colors About the colors Charles Thomson provided the first documented explanation of the colors presented on the American flag when presetning the Great Seal of the United States to the Continental congress in 1782. A Brief History History The history of The American flag can be seperated into to categories; pre and post Contintal Congress Resolution. Pre-Resolution - Prior to the calling for an official flag by the Continental Congress the American colonies, even during war time, represented themselves under many flags. Typically, flags were based on regiment and differing groups among the colonies.
