The Federalists also conclude that the three branches actually protect the rights ofthe people not take them away. Madison also pulls up safeguards that making a concentration of power difficult. Too Much Power Ain't Good For You The Solution Madison's Argument Does National Government Have Too Much Power? Dividing powers helps to check its growth, but power can't be divided equally, that's why safeguards are put in place. these safeguards are part of the solution. To make sure that a representative republic is successful safeguards were put in the three branches of gov. to assure that no one branch will take total control. This increases the three branches success rate. This is what many Anti-Federalists feared, that the federal gov. just held too much power and was at the expense of the state governments. However in Federalist 51 Madison shuts down this idea. Written by James Madison Presentation by: Bryan Regalado Madison's argument in Federalist 51 effectively countered everything in the Anti-federalist argument. Madison's argument explains how a government under the constitution makes liberty possible, and how it can be controlled enough, so that no none branch can take total control. The Anti-Federalists argued against the Constitution for several reasons the national gov. having too much power was one of them. They believed that the branches of gov. held too much power and were a threat of taking people's rights away. Summary Federalist Number 51
