Transcript of A resource is what a leaner or teacher uses to support the l
When selecting my resources within my teaching practice I considered the use of my resources as a product or process model.
Product Curriculum model:
This is a behavioral objectives model.
This model is a product of the curriculum based around qualifications.
This model allows the assessment to be more precise.
Helps select structure
Although this model stifles competition and is very curriculum to subject bound
This is not an inclusive teaching method as focus is on the outcome not on the learners individual needs.
Averages Worksheet 1
This resource was created to assist the delivery of an analysis session on the Level 3 BTEC Business programme.
The unit 10 market research module required learners as part of their Pass criteria to analyse a given set of data using averages.
When delivering this session I first of all used a powerpoint presentation as scaffold learning to explain each average this met the needs of my Audio learners, then once i had explained the average i used you tube clips as another way of imparting the information which met the needs of my visual learners.
Lastly to meet the needs of my Kineasthetic learners all my learners had to complete a worksheet for their Pass criteria this enabled all my learners to learn through practical application.
I differentiated the worksheet by using 2 types of task my lower ability learners tackled the task by just working out the averages for the given set of data, whereas my higher ability learners firstly worked out the averages and then analysed what the data showed. Therefore when delivering this session with this resource to make sure it was inclusive i considered the needs of all my learners and their learning styles and abilities.
Resources as a Curriculum model- Process Model
The Process Curriculum model however:
Features teaching activities and the teacher role.
The most important feature of this model is the student and learner roles and activities -Emphasis on active roles of teachers and learners.
This model has a more individual atmosphere.
Learners are given a part in deciding the nature of learning activities.
This model assumes that the learners makes unique response to learner experiences.
The only disadvantage of this model is that it is difficult to apply in some areas.
This is an inclusive teaching method because the teacher is the facilitator and allows the learners to be creative, develop and discover through learning.
Inclusive Resources for Teaching
A resource is what a learner or teacher uses to support the learning in the classroom . Resources should be inclusive.
Gibbs (2011) states that 'inclusive teaching is teaching that is helpful to the widest possible range of students. '
When designing inclusive resources we need to think about inclusivity in its broadest sense through using resources that set suitable learning challenges;respond to learner's diverse learning needs; and help learners overcome potential barriers to learning and assessment.
Averages Worksheet 2
The use of this resource in my session was inclusive as all my learners were able to follow the theory and information on the powerpoint and board examples, were able to engage with the you tube video and were able to select how they tackled the activity on the worksheet. The incorporation of learning styles means that the resource caters for all types of learners.
Within this resource to meet the needs of all learners there was an embedded video clip, small manageable sections of theory, the worksheet has visible for group practical worksheet activity.
This resource fitting around scaffold learning (powepoint, videos and a worksheet) throughout the lesson so that all of my learners could be both supported and challenged.
This resource is inline with the constructivist theory of teaching. The resource allows for learners to be actively involved in the learning as oppose to passively receiving the information.
Sutherland et al( 2004) argues that The use of ICT to create and designe resources for teaching and learning has improved and enhanced the quality of learning for all levels of learners and allows the teacher to cater for all learners.' This resource I designed electronically and put a copy of this resource on the college intranet which meant all learners had accessibility to the resource and could access the further learning links on the powerpoint
.The use of this resource in my session was inclusive as all my learners were able to follow the theory and information on the powerpoint and board examples, were able to engage with the you tube video and were able to select how they tackled the activity on the worksheet. The incorporation of learning styles means that the resource caters for all types of learners.
