Suicide What is Suicide ? Teen Suicide Feeling Signs Suicide is whispered amongst friends and family member.

When someone engages in a suicidal act, the only question on everyone’s lips is, “Why?”

People talk about suicide like it’s a secret that you can’t share with anyone. Causes Even though depression is the most common disorder, there are many more, some are :

* Stress
* Recent passing of a friend or family
*Break up with GF/BF or loss of a member
* Feeling unloved
* Being repeatedly criticized, rejected or torture
* Feeling hopeless, helpless, or worthless
* Low self-esteem
* Victim of abuse sexual, physical or verbal Why does it occur ? ●Eight out of ten suicidal persons give some signs of their intentions.

People who talk about suicide, threaten to commit suicide, are 30 times more likely than average to kill themselves.

The most common underlying disorder is DEPRESSION

30% to 70% of suicide Victims suffer from major depression or bipolar disorder. People can't see any other solution to their problems.

The answer is well-understood by mental health professionals — the answer is depression.

Suicide is the process of purposely ending one's own life.

Suicide is the one of the most common cause of death in the United States. Adolescence is a stressful developmental period filled with major changes

In the past year, 14.5 percent of adolescents in grades nine to 12 have seriously considered suicide.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death in 15 to 24 year olds.

Sudden happiness after long period of depression. "Everyone is better off without me." The latest data available indicates that 38,364 suicide deaths were reported in the U.S. in 2010. The rate of suicide has been increasing since 2000. This is the highest rate of suicide in 15 years. Verbal Signs What to do ? Take all threats seriously.
Notice signs of depression and withdrawal.
Tell parents, guardians, guidance counselors, partners, etc.
Express your concerns to the person by being an active listener and showing your support.
Be direct. Talk openly and freely and ask questions about the person’s intentions. Be there for them.
Get professional help. Call 1-800-SUICIDE What not to do Ignore or explain away suicidal behavior or comments.
Ignore verbal and behavioral warning signs.
Assume that a youth will easily get over a loss.
Be misled.
Act shocked at what the person may say to you.
Assume that the person will be all right left alone.
Leave the means of suicide available. "I wish I was dead."
"You don't have to worry about me any more."
"How do you leave your body to science?"

Giving away prized possessions.

Arranging to donate organs.

Alcohol or other drug use.

Careless, risk-taking behavior.

Withdrawal from family and friends.

Running away from home.

Change in school performance.

Extreme irritability, guilt, crying, inability to concentrate.

Your friends will think of suicide.

Your suicide is going to effect most deeply those who care about you most.

One of your friends may break down, and just like you, their world will be dark.

The pain you are in is awful, but why pass it on to hundreds of people around you, when you could try your hardest to work through it?
