Transcript of When you burn fire in a different color does it change tempe

Science fair project
The purpose of this project is to see if the
temperature of fire
will actually
change
, if i
change the color of the fire
. In order to
change the color of the fire
i will be using
magnesium
and
a cup of menthol
into a cup with
one more mixture.
Depending what color i will change the fire. The
colors that i will change the fire to are white, blue violet, & green.

INTRODUCTION
I
would like to know if i change the color of fire will it change the temperature of the fire.

My hypothesis is that changing the color of fire will increase the temperature of fire because of the chemicals that are in the magnesium and menthol will increase the temperature.

Variable- I am going to change the color of fire.

Background information- I found this project on WWW.EDUCATION..COM. But i did change. The idea of fire changing gave me the idea if i change the color of fire will it change the temperature..

ABSTRACT
PROCEDURE
1.Pour 1/4 cup of magnesium sulfate into the bowl.
2.Pour 1/2 cup of the menthol into the bowl.
3.Light the mixture with the lighter torch.
4.Observe.
•BLUE VIOLET
1.Pour 1/4 cup of potassium chloride/bitartrate into the bowl.
2.Pour 1/2 cup of menthol into the bowl.
3.Light the mixture with the lighter torch.
4.Observe.
•GREEN
1.Pour 1/4 cup of boric acid into the bowl.
2.Pour 1/2 cup of menthol into the bowl.
3.Light the mixture with the lighter torch.
4.Observe.

The temperature of fire
When using the Vernier Lab Quest thermometer i found that the regular temperature of fire was
-273.1 c
without any thing put in the fire.
The temperature of Green fire
When conducting this experiment to find the temperature of green fire i used the materials as listed and discovered the temperature went up. As i finished measuring the temperature of the green i found that is what
-273.8 c
The temperature of Violet fire
After putting the materials i needed to turn the fire into a violet color i used the vernier lab quest thermometer and discovered the temperature was
-274.2c
The temperature of White fire
Using the Materials that i needed to turn the fire white. I used the thermometer once again to know the temperature of the fire i found that it was
-273.7 C
DATA AND RESULTS
Discussion
After conducting my experiment with changing the color of fire and seeing if it increased or decreased, i learned that with all the chemicals in the products i used in the fire it caused the fire to increase the temperature. The temperature did not increase very dramatically , but the highest change was around 1 degree more.
CONCLUSION
After conducting my whole project i learned that my hypothesis was correct. The temperature did increase. Although it did not increase by as much as i thought it would, it did go up.
Aknowledgements & Bibilography
I would like to thank my science teacher for help on this project. And also to my parents for helping me get the materials i needed.
