James Simons was born into a jewish
He is the father of five children, two of which died.
He currently lives in Manhattan and
Long Island, New York with his wife .
He received his bachelors of science in mathematics in 1958.
He also received a PhD. in
mathematics in 1961 at the age
23. He attended the
Massachusetts institute of
Technology, University of
California, and Berkeley.
James Harris Simons is a professor of mathematics at Stony Brook University. He is former chairman of the mathematics department at the university. He is also the founder of Renaissance Technologies. Mr. Simons retired from CEO in 2009 as one of the world's most successful hedge fund companies.
He was awarded the Oswald Veblen Prize in 1976. In 2006, Simons was named Financial Engineer of the Year by the International Association of Financial Engineers. Simons founded Math for America, a nonprofit organization, founded in January 2004 with a mission to improve mathematics education in United States public schools by recruiting more highly qualified teachers.
Simons serves as trustee of Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Institute for Advanced Study, Rockefeller University, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley and a trustee of Stony Brook University. He is also a member of the Board of the MIT Corporation. As of August 2015 James Harris Simons has net worth of 14 billion.
