After getting attacked by a demon, Clary discovers that she and her mother are both shadow hunters.

She must train to be a good shadow hunter at the institute, a safe place for shadow hunters, in order to save her missing mother.

As they spend more and more time together, Jace, another shadowhunter, and Clary fall in love.

To find her mother, Clary must go on a journey to see the silent brothers in the City of Bones, only to discover that her memories have been blocked by a warlock named Magnus Bane.

Once she leaves the City of Bones, she speaks with Magnus Bane so he can remove the block.
Jace goes missing and Clary turns to a family friend, Luke, a werewolf, for help Clary learns that her father is Valentine, the most evil shadow hunter.

After Clary and her friends fight off a greater demon, she finds the mortal cup.

Clary and Luke, with the help from his werewolf pack, must fight their way into Renwick's Ruin (Valentine's hideout) to rescue Jace and her mother.

Once inside Valentine's hideout, they find Jace who announces that he is Valentine's child, too, and that he and Clary are brother and sister.

Clary finds and rescues her mother.

Valentine quickly escapes with the mortal cup and destroys the portal he used. Family is a theme in City of Bones. http://www.tcnj.edu/~santoro2/family2.gif Books by Cassandra Clare include The Mortal Instruments Series: Book One: City of Bones, Book Two: City of Ashes, Book Three: City of Glass, and Book Four: City of Fallen Angels.

http://www.cassandraclare.com/cms/home Biography: Cassadra CLare was born in Teheran, Iran. She spent much of her childhood traveling and living around the world. Since she traveled and moved so often, she would bring books where ever she went.

She went to high school in Los Angelos and used to write little stories including "The Beautiful Cassandra."

After college, she lived in Los Angelos and New York working for some magazines and tabloids.

In 2004, she started writing The City of Bones, in Manhattan, New York, and in 2006 she became a full time author.

Cassandra's first writing success was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord,”
and City of Bones was her first novel. My favorite paragraph in City of Bones is:

"He made a sound like a choked laugh before he reached out and pulled her in to his arms. She was aware of Luke watching them from the window, but she shut her eyes resolutely and buried her face against Jace's shoulder. He smelled of salt and blood, and only when his mouth came close to her ear did she understand what he was saying, what he had been whispering before, and it was the simplest litany of all: her name, just her name."

This is my favorite paragraph because it shows that Jace and Clary care about each other. They will stick together no matter what happens. This paragraph is very sweet and makes a perfect, happy ending to the book. I enjoyed the book, City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare.

City of Bones was so good that it inspired me to read the rest of the series!
