By: Gabriela Cornejo The Battle of Arras When did it take place? Who fought? The Battle of Arras was fought between April 9th, 1917 and May 6th, 1917 in Arras, France. Why did it take place? After the British lost the Battle of Somme, they were looking for a final breakthrough that could quickly end the war.

They thought that they could push back and beat the German troops, they could capture the land and win the war. It was mainly the British who fought the German, but the British had help from Canadian, New Zealand, Newfoundland, and Australian troops. Random Facts There was about 280,000 total casualties. This battle was the start of "Bloody April."
