This Is The iPad
The iPad is a series of tablet computers produced by Apple Inc. It features a touch-screen and many different features, Without further ado, lets delve deeper into the iPad.
Major Selling Points of the iPad
There are many reasons why the iPad sells so well. Starting off, it was the first tablet computer to feature the revolutionary touchscreen. It is small, portable, lightweight, and quite durable.( Trust me, I dropped mine down a flight of stairs, it only suffered a dent). The newer models come equipped with Touch ID, and the iPad Air 2 comes with the ability to open and use multiple apps simultaneously. From the iPad 2 and onward, the iPads were also equipped with cameras.
History of the iPad & Versions Available
The iPad has a quite a bit of history. Its predecessors were already developed in the 1990s, with a series of tablet computers sold by Apple from 1993-1998. More recently, there was the iPhone and iPod Touch in 2007. The iPad was finally announced on January 27, 2010, by Steve Jobs at a press conference. Apple started taking pre-orders for the iPad in March of 2010, and it entered stores in April. 300,000 of the devices were sold on the first day of release. It was released in Canada on May 28, 2010. 15 million iPads were sold before the iPad 2 was released. There are many versions of the iPad, the iPad, the iPad 2, the new iPad, the 4th generation iPad, the iPad Air, the iPad Air 2, and the iPad minis 1,2, and 3. Currently available on the market are the iPad Air 1 and 2, and the iPad minis 1,2,and 3. They all feature Retina-Display except the iPad mini 1, all have 2048x1536 resolution except the iPad mini 1, and all have a fingerprint proof coating. The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 also have fingerprint recognition abilities.
The iPad and iPad 2 have a 1024x768 touchscreen, liquid-crystal display. It reacts to the ambient light sensor and 3-axis accelerometer to adjust the screens brightness and orientation. It has a microphone to allow for voice recording and a 3.5mm TRRS connector to allow for headphones. For its power, the iPad has a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery. The batteries are made in Taiwan. Apple says that the iPad can provide 10 hours of video, 140 hours of audio, or 1 month on standby mode on 1 charge. As with all rechargeable batteries, they will lose capacity over time. The iPad is available with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of internal flash storage, however, on January 29th,2013, Apple announced that the new 4th generation iPad would also be available with 128GB of storage. However, there is no way to expand the storage space. The iPad comes in 2 versions, Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi plus cellular. The iPads with the Wi-Fi plus cellular capabilities come with a micro-SIM slot on the side, and unlike the iPhone which is usually sold locked to a single carrier, the iPad is compatible with many. The iPad is also compatible with a wide variety of accessories, which we will see next.
Hardware of the iPad
The iPad is compatible with a plethora of accessories which vary widely in style and function. There are accessories for business, recreation, and everything in between. Some of the more common accessories include cases, Bluetooth keyboards, stylus's, and headphones/ear buds. Exotic accessories include things that turn your iPad into a remote control for a camera drone, turn the iPad into an old fashioned arcade game, and a typewriter style keyboard.
