Transcript of the 40 Book Challenge!

The Book Challenge!
The Requirements
Must be a, “just right” book at your instructional reading level (the exception to this would be a classroom read aloud book read by a teacher).

Must be an appropriate length. Most picture books, pamphlets, easy readers, etc., will not be counted towards the challenge. If you have a question about a book check with a teacher before you begin reading.

Any book that you complete which is more than 350 pages may count as 2 books within that genre.

Reading that is done in the classroom through teacher read aloud or student reading groups may count towards your 40 Book Challenge. If you have a questions about a book check with a teacher before you begin reading.
Created by Donalyn Miller!

teacher initial

Helpful Hints
Students may be initially overwhelmed by the number 40!

Remind them they will log a lot of reading time both during and outside of school time.

Failure is not a choice, if asked what happens if 40 is not reached, just reply with encouragement and book recommendations.

Many students will probably exceed this amount.

Students have lots of resources to help with book choice!
