A Raisin In the Sun
Transcript of A Raisin In the Sun
Dream......... In 1959 the play "A Raisin in the Sun" was produced. If I want it I must go out and get it Beneatha Walter Younger Jr When will my opportunity come? Worked hard to provide what little they had "Mama" Relating to the American Dream, Beneatha is wanting to find her identity constantly. She is trying to understand herself, but at the same time trying to pursuit being someone better in life and proving her brother, Walter, wrong that she will become a doctor. The American Dream is the idea that anyone in the United States has the freedom to be prosperous, successful and improve your past generation moving upward in social class, all achieved through hard work. Basically bettering your life more than before and being successful and happy. What is the American Dream? Walter wants to become successful by finding a quick way instead of working and going through everything first .. Just like in the Pursuit of Happyness, Will Smith who plays Chris Gardner in the movie invested so much money on the medical equipment, but he still ends up at nothing. Walter is trying to find the fast track just like Chris, and end up in failure. Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is sort of like Beneatha, except his family has already achieved his American Dream, but he is also trying to find his identity and just enjoying life but he is wanting to be something better so he is going to college. Walter also relates to Will from The Fresh Prince of Bel- Air because Walter is wanting to jump into success , on the other hand Will already jumped a step ahead into success without even working hard. Mama and her husband Walter have worked hard for what little they had. They want to see there children live there dreams. Raising them to be proud of who they are and there roots. All Mamma wants to know, is that her family will be taken care of when she is gone. Identity, Justice and moral responsibility all play a part of the great struggle that Americans face still to this day. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore-
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over-
Like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
Like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
