7th Hour Gregor The Overlander Suzanne Collins Theme
Gox and Treflex
Lizzie In the book "Gregor the Overlander" Gregor and his sister Boots live in a small apartment in New York with their mom, sister, and grandma. One day, the two fall down a mysterious hole in their laundry room into a strange place called the Underland. At first, Gregor does everything to get home, but eventually he is forced to stay. During his time in the Regalia, Gregor finds out that he is the "warrior" of a prophecy. In order to save his dad and the Underlanders from the rats, he must stay to fight for the Underlanders. Gregor is forced to go to the Dead Land in order to save his dad and hopefully get back home. The major conflict of this book is Gregor falling into the Underland and being unable to return to his Mother. On top of that, his dad has been gone for two months, seven years, and who knows how many days, and Gregor must go through the Dead Land just to save him! In order to solve these conflicts, Gregor must become a brave warrior in order to rescue his dad and finally escape the Underland. Suzanne Collins started writing television shows in 1991. She was a staff member on many Nickelodeon TV sets. She wrote lots of other things for all ages. For example, she was the head writer for the kid's television shows "WOW! WOW! WUBZY!" and "Clifford's Puppy Days". One of her most recent books was "The Hunger Games Trilogy. The theme of this book is bravery and discovery. Gregor discovers the Underland, a place in which his dad disappeared to two years ago. In order to escape the Underland, Gregor must go on a quest that shows his bravery, and along the way, he discovers many secrets about the Underland, including that the rats had captured his father. In the end, Gregor's dad is discovered, and Gregor's bravery to fulfill the prophecy allows him to return back to the Overland. Temp and Tick Setting Besides the very small apartment in New York that Gregor and his family live in, this book takes place in the Underland, a world under the ground in which rats, bats, cockroaches, and spiders are the size of humans. There are many lands in the Underland. One major setting is Regalia, a country in which Vikus, Solovet, and Luxa rule. It is here that Gregor learns he is the warrior of 'The Prophecy of Gray'. Interesting Moments Vocabulary Marisa's favorite moment was when Gregor and Boots tried to escape and they went down the river and ran into rats and fought them. This was interesting to her because it had a lot action and suspense. Chloë's favorite moment was when Vikus gave Gregor his father's key chain. This was interesting to her because Gregor must have felt a glimpse of hope that his father was still alive, and this point led to the most important part of the book; when Gregor discovers he is the warrior. Peter Pan/Peter and the Starcatchers Compare and Contrast
one that flies
to bite or chew on with the teeth;
specially : to wear away by persistent biting or nibbling
one that crawls
one that spins
prediction of something to come flier gnawer crawler spinner prophecy “In one horrible moment the last piece of the prophecy became clear.
SO BID HIM GOOD CARE, BID HIM LOOK WHERE HE LEAPS,
AS LIFE MAY BE DEATH AND DEATH LIFE AGAIN REAPS." Without waiting for an answer, she turned to the group of cockroaches who had been standing patiently off to the side. "Crawlers, what take you for the Overlanders?" You could hear a pin drop in the room as he spoke the words.
"Ares the flier, I bond to you," One contrast is that Gregor needed to grow up and have the responsibility of taking care of Boots, and giving up summer camp to do this. Unlike Peter Pan, who will not grow up.
Similarities between the two books include that they both take place in mystical lands and they both follow the adventures of a young boy who both have a female companion. Oh, yeah. The spinners," said Gregor. He hoped they were more into the trip than the roaches had been. "'The Prophecy of Gray' requires it, Luxa," said Solovet. "One gnawer beside."
