History

Types of people
About half of the men of the Virginia Company were wealthy gentlemen and personal servants. There were a few farmers and artisans on the ship, but not enough workers to grow the food that the men would need. These men probally intended to survive by hunting, gathering berries and roots, and by trading or taking food from Indians.
Economy
At first he settlers were having a tough time at first but then John smith made an agreement with the natives who taught them to grow corn. Later John Rolfe introduced tobacco which became a major cash crop and saved the economy.
Religion
Virginians did not cross the Atlantic Ocean to create either a place where different religious faiths would be encouraged. In Virginia, they didn't expect that church and state would be separate. The initial Virginia colonists were not anti-religious, they considered religion to be a fundamental part of life and government. They assumed the church would be the "established" church, supported by taxes that were imposed by governmental authority.
Who founded it and why
In 1666, a group of wealthy men petitioned King James to allow them to establish a colony. They formed the Virginia company and went to establish a colony. In 1607, 104 men traveled from England and arrived near Chesapeake bay. They traveled up the James River to establish a settlement. They were expecting to easily intimidate the natives and get resources from them but they were not so easy to take from. They established a fort and called it Jamestown in honor king James. The lack of clean water, the fact that Jamestown was built on swampland, the lack of food, and the men’s inability to grow food all contributed to a lot of death.

Why would you settle
Virginia is a nice place to settle and is very successful economy wise because of the tobacco they grow and many people want to come here to find succes financially and life wise.
One of the 13 original colonies, Virginia was the first part of the country permanently settled by England, who established Jamestown on the banks of the James River in 1607. During the Civil War (1861-65), the city of Richmond, Virginia, became the capital of the Confederacy, and more than half of the battles were fought in the state. Today, many government institutions are headquartered in Virginia.
