George Patterson Y&R, Melbourne by executive creative director Paul Catmur, creative director Ben Coulson, art director Ben Couzens, copywriter Jim Ingram and agency producer Romanca Jasinski.
Music, “To Build A Home”, was performed by the Cinematic Orchestra from the album Ma Fleur. Vocals are by Patrick Watson. Advertisements can be a great related text in this unit as they are generally quite short and there is a growing trend these days to make these beautifully cinematic pieces of art as opposed to stock-standard "buy this product!" campaigns.
However, music video clips, tv shows and films can also be very effective contrasts to MAESTRO. Here are some starting points... A picture (or collection of) says a thousand words... Poetry exists for the purpose of divulging our inner-most thoughts and feelings, typically through sensory or visual imagery... Further text types to consider: Distinctively Visual MODULE A: Experience Through LanguageThis module requires you to explore the ways in which language has been chosen and manipulated to present you with an event or situation you feel a part of Distinctively Visual...In their responding and composing students explore the ways the images we see and/or visualise in texts are created. Students consider how the forms and language of different texts create these images, affect interpretation and shape meaning.
What does all this mean???
Regardless of whether a text is written or visual, we need to look at how particular techniques have been utilised to enhance the image (seen or visualised) and make it unique, artistic and vivid... I came across this ad and found myself re-watching it over and over again. I was shocked that it continued to hold my attention the way that it did. After about the third or fourth time, I really started asking myself “why do I like this so much?” and “what about it has me wanting to watch the whole thing, even though I know the ending and that it’s only a Schweppes commercial?”

First off I must say that I’m a sucker for high speed cameras and slow motion, so that definitely drew me in from the start, but as it continued there grew a sense of anticipation with a number of the different shots. For example, the one with the water balloon flying towards the guys face, I wanted to see explode. The music also added a sense of building climax that wouldn’t let me turn this off mid way through even if I wanted to.

On another note, it’s hard to have a bad time when water balloons are involved. They symbolize childhood and happy carefree days that have come and are now in our rear-view mirrors. I liked how there were no actual products or excessive logo placement in the video. The concept and the cinematography did the speaking for the product. Also, the minimal use of text was effective. The ad put me in a happy mood and inspired me to approach ads for something as boring as sparkling water in a fun outside-the-box kind of way.
http://stevepannes.wordpress.com/2011/10/03/1-coming-soon/ The ‘Burst’ campaign consists of five videos using slow motion cameras at 10,000 frames per second to capture the final moments in the trajectories of water balloons. The Schweppervescence moment is linked with the bubbles in the air moments after the pouring of Schweppes lemonade, dry ginger ale, mineral water, tonic or soda water. So what makes this ad 'Distinctively Visual'? Music (pace, rise and fall, melody)

Camera speed
Lack of camera movement
Lighting
Symbolism
Lack of text/dialogue What we have here is an 'experience'.
It is joyous.
It is awe inspiring.
It is nostalgic.
It is beautiful. the dusk sessions

the pyromaniacs of the gods were kicking it
into that desert sunset
upon a fire pink, burner-blue horizon line
blossoms cherry red
and naked solar flares drowning into hibiscus hell-flowers
dancing a wake for the dying light
above a necropolis of mulga and spinifex

fueling until darkness

when the tourists overdose on shooting stars
the lark of min-min lights
on the petals of midnight bloom
as the ghostriders take up watch

illuminated into the pitch
by the sun-bleached bones
of dry-spell roadkill Mad World
Gary Jules

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... mad world
Enlarging your world
