Transcript of Greek Mythology
Zeus's symbols are the thunder bolt, eagle, bull, and the oak tree.
Zeus : Ruler of the Earth and Sky
Zeus was a very powerful god.He defeated his father(Cronus) and took over the throne. He has two brothers Poseidon and Hades.
Hera was a protector of women and marriage. Her symbol was a peacock.
Hera: Queen of the gods
Hera was considered very beautiful Queen.
Hera was jealous of anyone pretty and of Zeus's other mates.
Poseidon: God of the sea and earthquakes
His symbols are the trident, the dolphin, the fish, and the horse
Poseidon mated with the sea nymphs of the sea and had his children .
He forced Persephone into marrying him .He also has a three-headed dog named Centaurus.
Hades:Ruler of the Underworld
Hades drew the smallest stick when he and his brothers were drawing and got the underworld.
Hestia is one of the most unknown goddess because she left Olympus.

Hestia: Goddess of hearth and household
Hestia left Olympus because every one there kept on quarreling.
Aphrodite:Goddess of beauty and love
Her son was Cupid ( the one who shoots arrows of love and wears a diaper, the god of love.
Aphrodite was born out of sea foam.
Demeter: Goddess of grain and fertility
Demeter's daughter Persephone was taken by Hades into the underworld.
Apollo is one of Zeus's sons and has a lot powers.
Apollo: God of music, light, poetry, the arts, medicine, truth, prophecy,archery,and disease.
He and Artemis are twins born from a mortal(a non-god/goddess) and Zeus.
Artemis was a very fierce female and a daughter of Zeus
Artemis: Goddess of sports and hunting
Artemis never wanted to mary because she wanted to stay a virgin. So she could have time for hunting and sports.
Ares : god of war and violence
Ares is the son of Hera and Zeus.
Athens was named after Athena.
Before Athena was born Hera killed her mother so Athena was born out of Zeus's head full grown.
Hermes : messenger for the gods
Athena: goddess of strategic war, wisdom ,and justice
Athena is also the daughter of Zeus.
Hermes is the son of Zeus.
Protector of thieves, shepherds, orators, road travel, and merchants.
Athena turned Medusa into a monster because Poseidon plundered Medusa and Athena found them in her temple
Athena turned Medusa to a horrible looking monster with snakes for hair and she could turn people ( even herself if she looked in a mirror) into stone.
Medusa was a very pretty mortal who was turned into a monster.
Hercules: A very popular myth.
Hercules is Zeus's son and a mortal's son. He was very strong and he went on twelve labors to prove that he was powerful.
1. Kill the Nemean Lion- Hercules killed the lion by using it's own claws-then he wore it's skin after
The twelve labors were.......
2.Destory the Lernaean Hydra-the Hydra was a monster with nine heads
3. Capture the Ceryneian Hind( Scorpio)
4.Trap the Erymanthian Boar-Hercules shot the boar with a poison arrow
6.Kill the Bronze Stymphalian Birds (Sagittarius)-Hercules them by clapping two bronze clappers together and scared the birds then he shot them with his bow and arrow.
5.Clean the Augean Stables(Caporicorn)-Hercules cleaned the stables with a river nearby
9. Steal the Girdle of Hippolyta- Hercules was given the girdle without a fight.
10. Herd the Cattle of Geryon (Gemini) -Hercules killed the two headed watch dog named Orthrus with one blow with his huge club.
7.Capture the Cretan Bull (Taurs)-Hercules strangled the Bull and shipped it to Athens.
8.Round up the Mares off Diomedes( Aquaries)
11.Fetch the golden apples of Hesperides-Heracles tricked Atlas into retrieving some of the golden apples for him by offering to hold up the heavens for a little while. Upon his return, Atlas decided that he did not want to take the heavens back and instead offered to deliver the apples himself. Heracles tricked him again by agreeing to take his place on the condition that Atlas relieved him temporarily so that Heracles could make his cloak more comfortable. Atlas agreed, but Heracles reneged and walked away.
12. Capture Cerberus-The last of his labors, Heracles was to capture Cerberus from Hades. Hades was the God of the dead and ruler of the Underworld.
