Transcript of reacting halogens and halides

The reactions of
Halogens and Halides 1- chlorine water and cyclohexane
form two clear layers after shaking
2- bromine water and cyclohexane
top layer remains light yellow, bottom layer transparent
3- Iodine solution and cyclohexane
previously dark brown/ red, the top layer becomes purple and the bottom layer gets lighter becoming a light brown/ orange
the solubiliy of halogens in water and cyclohexane Chlorine water, potassium bromide solution and cyclohexane

both layers were golden yellow before shaking then the top layer turned a darker gold and the bottom a very pale yellow Reactions of halogens with halides Chlorine water, potassium iodide solution and cyclohexane

two layers were formed
a yellow/ orange colour on the bottom and a purple top Bromine water, potassium iodide solution and cyclohexane

from a brown liquid this forms two distinct layers of purple on top and gold below

Reactions of halide ions with silver ions few drops of silver nitrate with 0.5cm cubed of a solution few drops of ......water with 0.5cm cubed of a solution 0.5cm^3 of cyclohexane with 0.5cm cubed of .... water
Potassium chloride solution and silver nitrate

solution becomes cloudy with a white precipitate

Potassium bromide solution and silver nitrate

solution becomes cloudy with a cream/off-white precipitate

Potassium iodide solution and silver nitrate

solution becomes cloudy with a pale yellow precipitate
