City game changer! LIH TEAM PROJECT
2013 NEW YORK CITY 8+ Million Residents Where are we now? To Top talent, innovators, and businesses A place where people want to live, work and play! What would you do with
30 million dollars? Where are we now?
Where are we going?
How will we get there? Consider:
- Which industries are predominant in NYC?
- Which industries are under NYCEDC's umbrella of reach?
-Which do you think generates the most for our city right now?
-And for the future? STRATEGIC ANALYSIS: This is meant to help you determine which industry you will focus on.
Think PEST: Political, Economic, Social, Technological factors when doing analysis.
Methodologies to Consider:
Conducting Focus Groups
Researching other cities’ best practices for growing & attracting targeted industries Where are we now?
Deliverables, Set #1 STRATEGIC ANALYSIS:
This is meant to help you determine which industry you will focus on, you must provide rationale for the one you pick.
Think PEST: Political, Economic, Social, Technological factors.
Methodologies to Consider:
- Conducting Focus Groups
- Researching other cities’ best practices for growing & attracting targeted industries Where are we now?
Deliverables, Set #1 SUITE OF INITIATIVES: Develop your plan to help new or existing sectors, create a competitive advantage, or even change the face of an industry. (Proposed game changer must be original, and not already in existence.)
EXECUTION/DETAILED PERFORMANCE TARGETS:
-Short-term, long-term target dates for accomplishment
-Timeline, budget, resources for each phase
-Aspects for long term management How will your plan be communicated and supported?
COMMUNICATION: How will you communicate your plan to various stakeholders and convince them to move forward? Define what your proposed project means for the City’s future, and how you will market it. How will you overcome opposition?
-Communication plan is your final presentation. Juding panel represents the stakeholders. How will we get there?

4/24 - Team Project Final Prep & Presentation JUDGING PROCESS Team presentation must apply LIH learning and tools (strategic thinking, use of a creative process, ability to sell idea, skills acquired from cross training and exposure to city agencies and senior level management)
Each team presents its ideas to a panel of “C-suite” judges who act as NYC stakeholders.
Each team will receive specific feedback (positive and constructive) from the judges.
One of the teams is designated the “winner." CRITERIA:
-Ability to sell idea
-Presentation Style QUESTIONS? Participants spend the remainder of their offline “training experience” and free time working with their assigned project teams against the brief. Throughout this period, participants will need to integrate their project work along with their actual workloads and responsibilities.
