Alternative Fuels Design Challenge By: Lydia King, Rebecca Tulloch, Lucy Marcum, and Kelly Ratliff Our Idea We decided to run an entire house off of solar energy. Our idea was to place the solar panels on the roof of the house so that the sunlight would have easy access to the panels. How They Work The Price $$$ A 5 kW system would cost around $25,000-$35,000 to install (not including incentives from the company).
The panels themselves would cost around $300-$600 each.
A 1 kW system can reduce a normal house's electricity bill by at least one quarter.
The cost of a single panel would depend on the amount of kW it can power. Amount of Power Domestic systems tend to range from 1 kW to 5 kW in size
Each 1 kW system can produce around 850 kW units per year
A small home system (1.5 kW) can power many everyday appliances and energy efficient lights for your everyday use
Sites Types of Solar Panels Crystalline Solar Panels
Thin Film Solar Panels
BIPV Solar Panels (solar roof shingles) 1.) They convert light into electricity with the highest efficiency solar cells on the market
2.) Converts solar electricity for household use
3.) Whenever production exceeds use, you receive credit from the local utility
4.) View energy production and usage online www.sunrunhome.com/solar-lease/cost-of-solar/solar-panels
