By Lauryn Ferreras Sunscreen + Other Sunsmart Tips SPF RATING! SPF is a rating that tells us how much protection a sunscreen gives you. The higher SPF rating a sunscreen has, the better it is for you! SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. APPLYING When you put on sunscreen, put a generous amount on, meaning put a lot on. Rub the sunscreen all over your body. Make sure that this is at least 30 minutes before you are going out into the sun. Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours, but with even smaller intervals if you're going into water or are sweating a lot. But all of this doesn't mean that you are totally protected. Remember to protect yourself in other ways too.

SUNSCREEN Even if the package of a sunscreen claims it's product is waterproof, no sunscreen is completely waterproof. If you are swimming/playing in water, you have even
more reason to apply sunscreen regularly.
That leads to my next topic... SLAP! SEEK! SLIDE! SLIP! SLOP! These 5 words are
the keys to staying sunsmart. Remember them and you should be protected from the sun and
it's harmful rays. Now... HAVE A CLOSER LOOK! SLIP on a shirt! Protect your upper body by wearing a shirt SLOP on sunscreen! Sunscreen protects your skin, but you need
a little extra protection... SLAP on a hat! Wear a hat to hide your face and head from the sun SEEK shade! Try to stay out of the sun and in a patch of shade SLIDE on sunglasses! Eye protection is so important, so help keep your eyes safe
