Transcript of Reproductive Disorders Caused By Teratogens

Reproductive Disorders Caused By Teratogens

What do you guys think would happen if a women who was pregnant took drugs, radiation,PCB's,heavy metals dioxins and furans
?
Teratogens
An agent, such as a virus, a drug, or radiation, that causes malformation of an embryo or fetus.
Can you guys name some Teratogens
Teratogens Drugs and Groups
ACE (angiotensin converting
enzyme) inhibitors
Angiotensin II antagonist
Isotretinoin (an acne drug)
Alcohol
Cocaine
High doses of vitamin A
Lithium
Male hormones
Lead
Mercury
Nickel
PCB

Some antibiotics
Some anticonvulsant medications
Some cancer-fighting medications
Some drugs that treat certain rheumatic conditions
Some thyroid medications
Thalidomide
The blood-thinning drug warfarin
The hormone diethylstilbestrol (DES).
Things to Know
PCB's
Polychlorinated biphenyls
Lower birth weight
Premature births
delayed fetal growth
abnormal neural system development

Dioxins and Furans
Polychlorinated dibenzoids
Polychlorinated dibenzofurans
Hypospadias
Spina bifida
Heavy Metals
A metal of high density or of high relative atomic weight
Some metals, such as, mercury and lead can cross the placenta and damage the fetal brain
Mercury
male fertility problems
deformaties and damage to nervous systems
Arsenic
crosses the placenta to the fetus
found in breast milk
pregancy loss
Placenta
Asenic
Radiation
Dioxins and Furans
Coffee
Trimesters

Babies may be born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) or if the mother is a heavy drinker Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS)

Alcohol
Cigarettes, Marijuana, Cocaine

Thalidomide Embryopathy (TE)
Where everything starts to form such as the;. Brain, Spine, Heart, and all major organs. You can see the umbilical cord, sex organs, and the embryo turns into a fetus.
Trimester 1
Trimester 2
This is where the bones are fully formed but are soft, the baby can kick hard, practices breathing, can open its eyes, and as the due date approaches it gets bigger and turns upside down
Trimester 3
This is where the skin and skeleton develop. Lungs are formed, eyelashes, finger/ toe nails, and hair has formed, if your baby is a girl then eggs are formed, if its a boy then the testicles move to the scrotum and your baby is more active
Smoking/Inhaling any of these can cause a miscarriage, still birth, and can cause babies to be born addicted to these drugs and more.
Isotretinoin (Accutane)
Is having good skin really worth it?
Radiation

Radiation is energy waves that move from one place to another.
Now lets look at some of the effects from some of these teratogens !
