Piñata Project
The Outline
We created the sphere by using a balloon and paper mache. We then popped the balloon so it became hollowed out
Surface Area of 3D Piñata
SA = 5(2π(1.75)(8) + 2π(1.75)^2)
= 5(87.9645943 + 19.242255)
= 536.03 square inches
Volume of 3D Piñata
V = 5(π1.75^2(8))
=5(76.97)
= 384.85 inches cubed
How It Is Made
We started off by making the center or body
Then we had made the legs of the lion
While we were making the legs, we also started creating the head
Finally we made the tail and we hot glued and taped it together and added the finishing touches

= 588 square inches

SA = 4π(8.5)^2
= 907.92 square inches
Sphere ->
Total
SA = 536.03 + 588 + 907.92
= 2031.95 square inches
Cylinders ->
V = 16 * 9 * 6
= 864 inches cubed
Rectangular Prism ->
V = 4/3π(8.5)^3
= 2572.44 inches cubed
Sphere ->
Total
V = 864 + 384.85 + 2572.44
= 3821.29 inches cubed
Scale Factor - 1/4 in = 2 in
Candy Calculations
1 Starburst = 3/4 * 3/4 * 1/4
Volume of body/volume of Starburst
Number of Candies = 864/ 0.140625
= 6,144 candies
Surface Area of 2D Outline
A = 5(2π(0.21875)^2 + 2π(0.21875)(1))
= 5 * 1.67510702
= 8.375535102 inches squared
Legs and Tail ->
A = 2((2 * 1.125) + (1.125 * 0.75) + (2 * 0.75))
